    Outdoor Wood Choice

Iroko would be a good choice. Look at the price difference then think how much it would cost you to remake it all again when your cheaper timber rots out. That's why I never make anything exterior from softwood. The extra few quid for materials is well worth it imho. Sent from my SM-G900F using...

    The Alcove Bed

Apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick, but won't it be a bit odd having the matress and bedding showing through the window ? Will the glass need to be toughened incase it takes a bump ? Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk Edit...ah, it's a window seat- gotcha

    Faulty lathe motor

Perhaps you need a 16 amp supply. I had something similar happening and all I had to do was replace one of the mcbs in the fuse box with a slightly different one. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

    Kicking out a cupboard door

    Kicking out a cupboard door

I think it'd probably look better than having a large gap. If you kept the batten the same thickness as the bottom and side I don't think anyone would realise the batten was just there for show. They might just think you've made a 4 sided box and fixed it into place. Sent from my SM-G900F using...

Making a casement window (single glazed)

Thanks for the feedback guys. Aidex personally I wouldn't make a window or a door without having a back up plan if the glue were to fail. On the frames the screws are the backup, on the casement the wedges provide additional strength. With modern glues it'd probably be ok, but with a little...

    Kicking out a cupboard door

Screw a batten on the ceiling and perhaps the right hand side. It'll just look part of the frame/box then. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Titebond Hide glue for workbench tenons?

But it is brittle. I made a batch of windows and used cascamite to glue a few casements before changing over to titebond 3. I had quite delicate glazing bars and decided I would speed the job up by using the drum sander- that was a mistake regardless. Pretty much all the glazing bars let go that...

    freud fail

At a glance that looks what I'd expect from a fence problem. Is the fence parallel on the cutting edge of the blade and also the back ? Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

    My new tropical aquarium setup.

150 tanks !! You must have had a huge selection. Wowsers. I think I need to stop paying attention to the shops labeling system. I thought community fish meant they would ve happy to go with other community fish but clearly thats not the case. I don't want to end up with anymore tanks than I have...

    My new tropical aquarium setup.

I bought a small piece of bogwood for the algae eater then got a bit lost with how I should introduce it to the tank. A few places recommended leaving it outside in a bucket of water with frequent water changes, the other suggestion was boiling it first. Here I was thinking I should just place...

    My new tropical aquarium setup.

1 single assassin snail sounds like a good solution. What happens if I accidentally get a pregnant one though and they take over the tank ? Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

    My new tropical aquarium setup.

I put 3 plants in yesterday so will probably look at getting an additive to kill the snails. I saw a fish tank that had more snails than fish and wasn't really a fan. I was quite pleased with yesterday's effort. I cut a piece of 2mm mdf out so I could stick the background to it easily. Gave it...

Should I Have To Plane/Thickness PAR?

That's what I would do. I think of par the same way as tanalised studwork - it's ok if it's going to be hidden. You should find a dramatic increase in quality with sawn softwood. Jewsons are usually pretty good. If they send out rubbish I send it back. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

    My new tropical aquarium setup.

That was a bad choice wasn't it ?- balls ! Apparently it was gonna help with the tanks snail problem. Is it common to keep fish till a certain size then look at rehoming them or is that considered cruel ? I've loaded it with 110 kilos and there doesn't appear to be any rocking or issues with...

    My new tropical aquarium setup.

I'd guess I've still got 115 litres of the old water - 80 litres in plastic container, 25 and 10 litre drums so I'll only need to introduce maybe 15 new litres. I bought a backup heater and was thinking I'd fill the tank then let the heater get up to the same temperature as the plastic jobby...
