How to get that High Gloss Finish

Luckily all the bits I have to do are flat panels and the edges don't really show to much so I just burnish the front face, and by dropping the panel into a frame to hold it still this also protects the edges from excessive pressure when compounding. How does the masking tape trick work? how...

How to get that High Gloss Finish

Part 2 After the burnishing I like to use a bit of wax. Again check. And if it's OK then do it all over again. Basically after a lot of work to flatten and remove any imperfections in the spraying you end up with what you started off with and a glass like flatness.

How to get that High Gloss Finish

Just thought this might help someone out there understand why I hate high gloss finishes especially black!!!! After at least three coats of burnishable AC lacquer and about a week for it to harden. First you need something to hold the work piece and in this case protect the corners. Then...

    A lesson in brickying

I might be wrong but I think it is suction, the mortar as you say is very wet and the brick very dry, the brick grabs the water and leaves the mortar firm which as you see is why they have to work very quickly.

    Buying Group

More than once I have thought about rather than ordering what is really 1/3 or 1/2 a pack of timber ordering a whole pack and getting a better rate for myself, and then sharing out what I don't need to peoples that have pre-ordered it. A small pack of hardwood would I understand be about 30>40...

    Fumed Oak

I must admit I did assume the OP was trying to match an old piece of furniture, so my assumption was that that was more likely to be English or European rather than the American which is now often found to be stocked by many timber suppliers today and to start with the right material will only...

    Fumed Oak

When you say you are using white Oak do you mean American White Oak if so you probably would be better using English or European Oak to start with, and I'm not sure fuming is the way to get honey gold, maybe a water stain made from cold tea would be worth a try.

    Rough sawn timber

Yes, Yes, and maybe. a small amount of quartered wood should be just a matter of selecting the right board from a selection, if you need a whole pack/lorry load of quartered timber then expect to pay for the yard to sort through piles and piles of wood for you. very few sawmills actually cut...

    Wood I.D please

American Black Walnut would get my vote, more so if it's been made from pre-veneered board, If it's Cherry it has been stained.

    Chrispy's entry for Dodge's challange

Did consider this but then thought "1" it's plywood, "2" The glue lines will be inline with the joints to the legs "3" it's too easy!!! anyway I like the idea of an endless ring holding everything in order.

    Chrispy's entry for Dodge's challange

I'll use Cascamite for the trial as thats all I have to hand, if that doesn't work then I may have to rethink things.
