Now you know what is it I'm making, A roof update

Today's cluesis AndyT I like your thinking, but ganging up on me! SheffieldTony I'm using Cascamite because it is a creep resistant adhesive with a long open time as there is a lot of stress in bending these shapes rather than it's water resistance although this is a reassurance. And today's...

    Slab front drawers question?

Yes you could do that very easily in a vacuum press, but they are going to be very heavy doors! Could you make them hollow if you could get the use of a plattern press, what hinges are you using not many will work with such thick doors?

Now you know what is it I'm making, A roof update

AndyT, you are making assumptions, there is no big circle or ellipse, just parts of a circle and ellipse and yes it is all going to be jointed together to make one thing. (hammer) Anyway today's progress. the second elliptical glue-lam And because the elliptical parts taper from end...

    Copy Lathe or similar

Not sure but I think what you need to search for is a rotary copy lathe, or rotary knife copy lathe, these were /are used for axe handles, cabriole legs and suchlike.

Now you know what is it I'm making, A roof update

Well just got glued up, it was a lot more difficult that the others partly as the curve is tighter at one end and the width of the glue-lam is 200mm against 150mm before, but it is a bit shorter. And this is the pile so far.

Now you know what is it I'm making, A roof update

Today's update, I've had enough of that laminating, so took the jig apart and set out for the next set of ...... laminating. The first 7 Glue-lams where part of a circle about 3.5m radius. this next set are part of an ellipse so not quite so easy to set out. Then screwed the clamping blocks...

Now you know what is it I'm making, A roof update

Well if you are looking for another clue, it's the same as yesterdays, yet another glue-lam, I can't see the point of yet another picture so you will have to imagine it, but don't worry tomorrow might be different! And if you are thinking of buying a "White Elephant" from my FB page so that you...

Will this work - any thoughts please...

If each piece were tenoned at each end where it met the next slat and a gap left at each side to allow for movement and the drainage of rain water, I think it would work OK, sapele is durable and usually quite stable so should be a good choice of wood as well.

Now you know what is it I'm making, A roof update

And today's clues, yes even on a Sunday. 100g of water + 200g Glossy icing or Cascamite. is just the right amount to cover this lot. and the pile grows. Keep guessing it's really quite amusing some of the wacky ideas.

    Table restoration

Well it rained and it got a bit wet but all was OK, the client loved it. And here is a picture with the glass top in place.

How can I reproduce this paint effect?

Thanks for all the ideas, I did a few experiments and the best I found was to apply a coat of gloss oil paint and then while it was still wet over coat it with water based emulsion, but it was still not the same and took ages to dry. So in the end turned the job down suggesting making two new...

    Any sparky on here

First of all is the supply good, ie try plugging into a different socket, then check the flex for damage, more than once I've found a broken wire in a flex often a few inches from either end, if that's OK test the switch next take it apart and look for black sooty marks etc. Your meter would...

    Table restoration

And with all four corners glued up and cleaned off, a bit of golden Oak stain to repair the colour then a few coats of AC lacquer and job done. And if it stops raining for half an hour I'll deliver it back to it's owner.

Some days you never know whats going to land on your bench.

Well this is what it looks like now. I'm glad the guy who cut this out was not building planes, it was not very neat or square so I thought easy just trim it up a bit, well after all it's only a bit of Alli right, wrong this stuff is like steel - spring steel, and the precision of construction...
