This won't help with your toe nailing until you improve your aim but for straight forward nailing pull the trigger then bump the gun onto the work piece so the nose safety catch does the shooting, that way you have the weight of the gun to help you control the recoil.

No steam just glue and cramps, it's only softwood so bends easily. I don't think it would work very well with just three laminations tho, you will get a lot of spring back.

The laminations were cut from 2x4 par 5ths so would be 45mm wide and cut to about 15mm thick Ithink, the length must have been about 2.7m ish glued up they were 150mm wide so would be made up of 10 laminates, with that many I got very little sspring back.

I can't see that you have made any allowance for wood movement in your design. Construction wise you have all the problems of a log build in that you must have about 2m of logs piled on on another when that lot gets damp it's going to expand maybe 40 or 50mm which if there is no allowance made...

Why do you think you would get a better finish with hand held router? with cnc you can climb cut then finish off with a very fine 0.1 or0.2mm finish cut conventionally, the tool path can be any which way you like ie offset from edge with a step over of as little as you like so no lines or...
