    Can you use a piece of angle iron, concrete it in to the ground with just a light fixing into your slab for good measure then fix your post to that.

    I have no hard and fast rule, if the walls are good and true then I would leave maybe 20mm behind unless there are pipes work round or if its all drawers then I'd make the cabinet to suit the runners, really every kitchen is different.

    Only where there are pipes, I think if you are paying for a fitted kitchen it should fit.

    Well I'm one for full thickness ie 18mm mainly because I use mfc and find it difficult to obtain matching 9mm for the backs, also i biscuit glue and screw the backs which helps support the top and bottom shelves, it also means wall ccabinets can be screwed through the back to the wall.

    I'll never forget the look on my first boss's face when he looked up at me and said "it's gone" took me a while to realise he meant his index finger, he'd been trying to clean the drive chain on one of these with a rag while the machine was running he thought it sounded a bit noisy!

    Looks more like teak veneer to me, but to stain Birch ply to match that will be a real challenge.
