How to make a log last?

Knock loads of 6" nails into it, it probably won't stop it splitting but will make you careful with your axe.

    How was this joint cut?

I would be very surprised if the rails do as they look and go right through the legs without shoulders, it would be a very difficult thing to do neatly and would take almost all the strength from the legs, instead I think the rails would be mortise and tenons as per normal with decorative ends...

    Wood identification

Boxed heart just means that it has been cut around the centre of the tree in a balanced way, in practice the saw Mill has cut off the good clear outer wood to produce good grade boards and left the early growth with all its knots to be used as construction timber.

ADVICE ON VERTICAL PANEL SAW PURCHASE NEEDED

30 boards a week is the best part of a pallet, for those amounts i would investigate having your supplier cut it up on a beam saw, it should be able to cut 5 or 6 sheets at a time very accurately and cleanly restack them back onto the pallet and deliver to you ready to use, spend your money on a...

Moving a big table saw on my own

I've no experience with Axminster but I think the delivery driver will have a pump truck so if you are ready with the planks you would be fine. Ask them about it before you order.

    Edge banding MDF?

Just swipe the edges with a sharp plane and then a hot iron I find there's no need for the edging, the heat and pressure on it's own seals the mdf

Concealed drawer slides for flush faced dovetail drawers?

Yes you can use under mount soft close runners such as Blum or Grass but you really need a 1.5 / 2mm gap all round your draw as they tend to be quite bouncy in use, and they do take up quite a lot of space under the draw. .

Mystery trigger operated shears / scissors .......

Is there any sign as to where that loose bolt fits? Also I have difficulty in seeing how this could be held for use, so feel it's part of something automatic, operating in a trap or case of emergency release cutting a cord or strap, but it's also quite decorative so it's been made to be seen...
