How do you feel about the safety issues? Should it be allowed?

Point taken. I will quit the light hearted banter.

    TS-200 table saw stuck

First thing would be to clean up and lube all the gear teeth and threads for both up and down as well as tilt movement. Caked on dust can really bind things up. A stiff bristle brush to move caked on gunk and if you have compressed air then a final blow with that. Then while you are in there...

How do you feel about the safety issues? Should it be allowed?

I thought it used to be Volvo drivers that were the problem.

    Flattening a small door...

Back when that was made most homes would not have had central heating so this time of year indoor humidity would have been higher and the temperature lower. I suspect this may be the cause of the distortion. It could also be like Jacob says to do with the construction adding to the problem. I...

How do you feel about the safety issues? Should it be allowed?

It's always tricky making any statements about safety and in these days of compulsory outrage its often better to keep mute on all sorts of issues. In the main however most tools and machines are safer now than they used to be due to guards and mechanical safety features. That said we seem to...

    Sourcing wood for turning

There are a lot of skills a turner needs to learn. How to scrounge up wood being one of the main ones. The main thing with turning is that nearly any wood can be turned so trimmed branches and other tree pruning is a great source. Places that sell firewood could be another place to look. Green...

    Outgrown my lathe?

Like alex has pointed out something with a swivel head will give you a lot more room to grow. Bowl blanks being a bit larger than the finished bowl. One thing to look out for is the minimum speed of the lathe. For big bowl blanks you need start slow while you rough it into balance. Regards John

    Mini table saw?

Depends on how many fret boards you will be cutting. For the 2 or 3 a Year I do then a gents saw with a depth stop does me. As M_Chavez said there are fret cutting blades for full size tablesaws but even then I think you would need to be doing a lot to justify the cost. Fret Slotting Table Saw...

Went for an NHS colonoscopy yesterday..

I get them regular about every 3 years. Had the HR manager at work one time thinking I was wagging so he tried the third degree. Just what does a colonoscopy entail he asks. I say if you must know they jam about 3 meters of camera where the sun don't shine. He was somewhat taken aback and...

    Floats

The metric system is so much easier to do calculations in. I started training for the merchant navy in the late 60tes and things llke ship stability was a real pain in imperial. If I remember right a cubic foot of water was 65.5 lbs. How much easier it became in metric when a M3 of water was 1...

    Narex woodturning chisels

The pro line look a bit better but even the base line set was overpriced for what you get. Looks like you have to contact Narex for price as I could not see it anywhere for the pro line. Regards John

    Narex woodturning chisels

Never knew they did turning tools so googled them. The pic shows Cr Mn on the blades. Dont know if thats good for turning or not. Narex Woodturning Lathe Chisels – Set of 6 pcs – BigaMart That said just from the pic the set itself looks a bit ho hum. Short blades, cheap ferrules and what will...

How do you feel about the safety issues? Should it be allowed?

You see much worse any day from U toobers that want to show us how woodwork is done. The difference is the tea caddy makers know what the risks are and to be honest It did not look all that unsafe. The U toober on the other hand buys a good safe saw then removes the safety features. I really...

    Thicknesser

I can only go from the specs as I have not used those machines but the Matabo and the Dewalt Would be my first 2 picks. Based on Power and weight. Heavier is better than lighter in these kinds of machine. Build a wheeled stand for it. Even the lighter makita I would not want to be lifting every...

    Thicknessing - lunchbox vs P/T

I had to google Cooksley as I had never seen one. It looks like a good solid bit of kit. Now to the question or my view of it. I got by for many years with just a lunch box thicknesser. True you have to start with a flat face but it does not have to be perfect. I used to knock off the high spots...

    Diamond grinding cup

Many years ago I used a stone cutting disc in a circ saw to cut brick pavers. The stone dust got in the motor bearing and caused a melt down. May be why they say use a concrete grinder. Regards John

    Air purifier in apartment workshop

I would just get a workshop air filter. Later on when you get a shed or something more permanent you can use it there too. Axminster Workshop AW15AFS Air Filter - 230V | Axminster Tools International Likely a bit less expensive than a household air filter and its intended to filter wood dust...

    Turning blanks from logs

The main reason to discard the pith is that as the wood shrinks cracks very often start to spread outwards from the center. For the larger ones getting rid of the pith is the way to go. With some of the smaller ones you can experiment turning things like end grain hollowing and live edge...
