Post a photo of the last thing you made

I had a feeling the old guys would have used templates for bits of the work but it was the 3d printing bit you are doing that I was referring to. Brings it into the modern age. Regards John

    mmm help needed

Looks like a pretty good lathe. You should be able to do most turning jobs on that. I started out with a very smaller record lathe. Record power do lathe chucks. Axminster will have a few of various brands. Amazon, ebay and other on line outlets. Most modern chucks can be fitted with a range of...

    American pork chop planer guard

Its pork chop for me. Its ease of use like sams 93 said. My current jointer has the bridge style guard and I am not loving it. Regards John

    mmm help needed

I dare say you are right but there is nothing wrong with the old step pulleys. I have sometimes wished for var speed on the pillar drill as the belt change on that is a bit of a fiddle and I do tend to be reluctant to change unless its a big step up in diameter. Regards John

Cyclone / pre collection / filter

Like the others say its worth a try. Its basically a wet and dry like most shop vacs. The filter will clog and reduce suction so will need to be cleaned when that happens. I would use a cyclone and catcher then not much dust will get in the vac itself so filter will last longer between cleans...

    mmm help needed

Var speed is a luxury I have never had so never missed it. In about 20 years of turning I have never stood at the lathe wishing I had elect var speed. The record lathes speed change is easy enough to manage. I would also say the old step pulley system is more reliable as there is not much that...

    Robinson ET/E Saw

Its a thing of beauty and you have done a great job. Truly a great bit of iron. Regards John

    Info needed please

Its one lathe (sold under many brand names like Clarke, Scheppach, Ryobi and even saw it in Aldi ) I would have advised beginners not to buy but seeing as you did not buy it its not the end of the world. It will spin a bit of wood so have a play around with it until you can track down something...

    Duckboards

Nice as it would look to start with have a think about how practical it is. Unless you have house servants I think the general cleaning & maintenance will become a bit of a chore. Regards John

Now I like Bosch pro, but there's a limit...

Turn that torque setting right up and who knows how fast you could go. If you are shy about being seen out with them then just wear then in the shed.;)

    Digital Calipers

I used a sextant every day for a few years at sea and was around when the first sat nav systems came along in the late 70tes/early 80tes. Made life so much easier as you dont have the few pages of calculation to do every sight. For a few years after I still got the sextant out now and then just...

    Digital Calipers

Not being an engineer my only exposure with vernier was using a sextant. Older sextants were vernier and I have to admit I found the reading to be hard. They had a small magnifer glass to read the vernier part of the scale. The sextants with a micrometer dial were much easier. These days my old...

Small Mitre Saw - Where can I get a balde?

Strange they are so hard to find. Here in Australia I can just walk in a hardware store and pick one up. I had a look and Amazon have them. Küpper Universal Mitre Saw Blade Model 600 Width 350 mm : Amazon.com.au: Home Improvement Regards John

Value of an antique plough plane

Sadly it wont fetch a lot nice as it is. It looks to be missing the arm wedges but its easy to make those. They usually had a set of 6 or so irons for cutting different width grooves. That said they are lovely old tools and when set up right work really well. I have one that is complete but it...

    Sourcing wood for turning

Roland you have pointed out an important fact for those looking for turning wood. The most interesting bits for turners would be rejected by most other woodworkers as too difficult. Win win for all. Regards John
