Is there a woodworm preventer or treatment that is food safe? For example if I were to make an outdoor table that might have food on it? Or if I were to find evidence of woodworm in an old table?

Just put masking tape over the end of the nozzle. I've never thrown out a half tube in my life and i'm pretty sporadic with it's use so half an opened tube might sit for 6 months, on the odd occasion you get a plug you can usually extract it with a screw.

Could you get a couple of better photos please? one showing the bark on the main stem, another showing the needles and if possible any cones/fruit?

In principal I agree but a guard is no substitute for safe working practice. A bit like a safety catch on a gun.
