    Spiral Upcut Router Bits

Neither are 1/2" and 12 mm, but the 12 mm will be fine in a 1/2" collet if you use a 1/2" K&S round brass tube, and cut a split in it. The split is so that the 12 mm bit will fit inside, and the collet can be tightened properly. The brass tubes are available from model hobby stores.

    Soldering broken bandsaw blades

How thick is the blade? If it is thick enough, about 0.7 mm (a bit under 1/32"), it is possible to grind tapers and braze the blade. However, it might become too short. The Swedish company Håkansson Sagblad AB Sågblad made in Sweden - Håkansson Sågblad use that technique, which I prefer to...

    I want some sardines

Not even King Oscar sardines in olive oil? Expensive here in Norway, but readily available. And THE BEST according to my Aussie mate Kenny.

    AliExpress

If you do your homework properly, you'll find that MI6 (as well as CIA and MI5) are greater threats than both China and Russia when it comes to your personal safety. And when you see that over half US Americans want war with China, you can see the lunacy that drives the seppos. Just remember a...

    AliExpress

They are charging to my CC via AliPay, and there are no transactions fees, but they charge VAT for the Norwegian government. However, that means everything arrives right in mailbox, regardless price. Tried Banggood, but prefer AliExpress. Have also bought a lot of carbide inserts for my metal...

    AliExpress

How many here buy stuff via AliExpress? I have had nothing but good experiences, and the most expensive item I bought was a Holset turbocharger for a mate's Volvo excavator. Ended up at less than half the price of what it is in Norway, and it was a brand new OEM: Must admit I just love the...

Cutting aluminium extrusions on a table saw?

One is supposed to use methylated spirits for lubrication, which I have never done. But I have used cutting oil. Another thing is to avoid feeding too fast, let the blade run freely. And go very gently if you use a coarse toothed blade. The negative angle is a definite plus. Cutting alu on a...

    Bleaching wood

Thanks for reminding me of the name for oxalic acid. Used it close to 50 years ago to bleach the pine panel in my lounge room. Very efficient, and found a supplier here in Norway who sells it at a fair price.

    Camera buying advice please

The reality in photography is what it's always been: A top photographer can take good, interesting pictures with pretty well any camera, even a pinhole one.

3 jaw scroll chuck - how to dismantle

With something like that I use the one solution I think best when keeping it will be a continuous annoyance: See if it can swim in very deep water! Alternatively put it in a metal scrap bin.

    Camera buying advice please

Look at the pixel count on some of the phones. Just incredible, and most likely the reason for the very good technical quality of the pictures. Like this one: Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra SPECIFICATIONS Release date: January 2021 Rear cameras: 108MP f/1.8, 10MP f/2.4, 10MP f/4.9, 12MP f/2.2...

Make a 22mm copper pipe into a coil??

    1. Anneal the pipe - properly. 2. Make a jig like shown in the picture of some hardwood. See to that the flanges are close to the diameter of the pipe. 3. Put the cooled annealed pipe in the tool, and start bending. The flanges will prevent the pipe collapsing. 4. Take your time, don't force the...

    Camera buying advice please

Just always remember it is the person BEHIND the camera who makes the picture! We are inundated with happy-snaps, the brainless selfies, and silly group photos. But the cameras seem to master situations in such minima light that one who used film is still amazed. And it seems like the art of...

    Advice on Band saw purchase

Mate, go for a 14" band saw with preferably at least 750 W motor. Had the Metabo 260. Okay for small jobs, but it was a bit asthmatic when push came to shove. Had one of the Chinese 14" in Australia, and that was a very good machine, but only 550W motor, which was rather marginal when cutting...

Withdrawn 10" Planer thicknesser for a small hobby workshop

Have that Metabo, and it is very good. Only thing: Get a good chip extractor as otherwise it clogs up quite quickly. But that goes for any planer/thicknesser in my experience.

    Wanted Looking for a Bandsaw

Look at this: Jet 16” JWBS 16X band saw review Have one of these after a Norwegian supplier advised me against the equivalent Record, as he said they stopped selling them after too many warranty complaints. Have been very pleased with it, and it cuts 10" oak without problems. Properly adjusted...

Do you own this simple dowel jig?

Stick with the Wolfcraft Dowelmaster, and take the time to learn to use it. It is good value for money, and when you get the grip on how to use it, it will become a very handy tool for many sorts of joinery. But like so many things, the applications are not always bleedin' obvious, but you'll...

    Carbide tipped woodturning irons

Tormek has a nifty little tool for grinding carbide bits which came as a bonus with the Tormek SVD-186. I never bothered to check how Tormek intended its use as I just put it in my metal lathe chuck and used a diamond whetstone handheld. Works a treat, and the inserts are sharp as ever again...

    Carbide tipped woodturning irons

Some years ago I was considering carbide tipped wood turning tools, but when I saw the price, I balked. However, after a bit of research I found that RCGT inserts for cutting aluminium on metal lathes was plenty sharp enough for wood. And then I found that real savings could be had buying these...
