    Plywood for Paulk bench

I'm no ply expert but my neighbour who knows more was impressed with it. I used it for the walls and ceiling in my workshop. It seems pretty good. I have routed some circles out of it and it didn't seem that soft. Possibly another indicator is that 40mm screws didn't pull through the...

    Chalk deposit in toilet pan

I have used brick cleaner (acid) poured into the pan water. Left overnight and all good.

    Plywood for Paulk bench

If you have a Selco Builders Warehouse near you they have their 18mm General Purpose Ply on offer for £28 inc VAT. I used 12 sheets of the 12mm and 6 of the 9mm. It's decent quality with virtually no voids in it. OK, it's not Baltic Birch but I'm using the above for my bench. Cheers, Jon.

Hard wax oil - micro lumps\bubbles?

Hi all After the above and drying overnight the finish is now perfect :) Thanks for the help! Now on the lookout for non abrasive scourers. Jon.

    This fell into my car.

That looks very similar to a Draper one I have just stripped down (sold under many different names) An old drill but most likely load better than you will get now unless spending hundreds! Nice find :)

Help Needed Please! Electric Machine Fault.

Hi, From reading your description and the above posts I would concur that it is most likely the PCB. However, going with the Capacitor theory (which i agree with) the thing that counters that is that you had no smell, normally electrolytic caps stink like fish when they let go. Have you been...

Hard wax oil - micro lumps\bubbles?

Hi, So watched some more hwo finishing videos and with the advice above have done this: Sanded at 320g Blown off, wiped with white spirit then left to dry followed by tack cloth. Applied a coat with the sponge from a scourer in all directions to ensure coverage. Then laid off with sponge...

Hard wax oil - micro lumps\bubbles?

Hard wax oil - micro lumps\bubbles?

Hi All, I have just finished applying 2 coats of Fiddes hard wax oil to an Oak table that I'm refinishing. On the now dried finish there are some really small spots that are not really noticeable unless up close or to the touch. I'm almost certain it's no a contaminant. The table has gone...

Can someone recommend a decent outdoor polyurethane or varnish for my oak doors?

Sikkens Cetol. Used this on a teak table 8 years ago and will need re-finishing this year. It's been sat in a South facing rear garden in all weathers.

    D&M Tool Show - 6th to 8th October

Hi, I haven't been for a number of years but am going this time. Are there any really good deals to be had at the show in previous years? I'm not really after anything specific, except a 5M hose for my Festool CTL Midi. Mine has the older style which catches. Cheers, Jon.

    New workshop - Flooring

Hi, They are noticeably nicer than bare concrete to walk and also kneel on. Not sure about tablesaw but i do have a mechanics troller which is loaded up and also a mechanics type tool cabinet (bottom, mid and top) which is about 6' 4" tall and that is so much easier to move around, same with...

    Wiring up home workshop

If you are doing it then get a spark in. The only time I have seen 2.5mm flex used for extension leads is blue arctic cable terminated into commando plugs\sockets. Definitely not mains 13A plugs. I have just done my workshop with similar loads to yours. It's probably way overkill but that...

    New workshop - Flooring

Hi All, In the end I went with a 7mm interlocked PVC floor tile which i'm very happy with. Looked at the other options above but after getting samples went with the PVC. It's easy to lay and cut. It can be cut with a stanley knife but in the end I used my plunge saw, that said it did clog it...

    Cyclone Bucket.

Great point. You can also make your own PRV very easily, plenty of guides about.

    Cyclone Bucket.

I use a blue food grade barrel. Quite often on Facebook Marketplace for not a lot of money. Here is one I made years ago: That includes the baffle but I also use another barrel just as a catch tank. Jon.

Quick question, so I can get on with the job.

Hi, Bit late now but i have just fitted an EPDM roof to my workshop. According to Rubber 4 Roofs where I purchased it the talc is just to make the installation easier and doesn't have to be removed prior to bonding. Mine is stuck down really well and i didn't remove it. Jon.

    New workshop - Flooring

Hi All, The build is progressing, currently doing the insulation in the ceiling and walls. I'm looking for some advice on flooring if you may? The floor in my workshop is currently a 125mm slab of C35 concrete on top of 100mm Celotex etc. I'm getting to the point of having to make a decision...

    New Brick\Block Workshop - 4M x 4M

So in terms of the original footing\slab question this is what we did: Excavated footings, filled with 300mmx400mm C35 concrete with steel mesh. Allowed to cure then laid 2 courses of 7N blocks belly down then a final course of brick to finished floor level. We then dug the centre down to...
