    This is modern DIYing ...

I shouldn't laugh but I think most of us know someone like that - a dozen jobs on the go and none of them completed and the bits that have been done haven't been done properly. That custom table would annoy me - why wasn't the steel inset into the wood so it was flush? It'll just stop the table...

    Knee pads?

Don't know if there are many physical shops left but there are online shops https://www.goldingsurplus.co.uk/products/knee-pads https://www.britishmilitarysurplus.co.uk/shop/sale-items/desert-knee-pads-grade-1-1123871.html

    Drilling glass

I'd go with getting the supplier to drill the holes - it appears that the supplier you linked has an option for hole drilling and allows you to specify the hole locations. They'll have the correct equipment for the job and any breakages will be their responsibility.

Adapter for securing a generic vacuum hose to Bosch Pro circular saws

I've standardised on the quick-click adaptors from CTS for connecting to tools - I made up a few different hose lengths with the circular 'female' end and find that the 4 piece set fits the vast majority of my tools. There were a couple of tools that I had to make short enlargers/reducers for...

    How would you?

Assuming any cut surface will be covered by the new legs, and there's definitely not any metal in the joint, I'd probably try cutting them off using something like a kugihiki (a backless Japanese saw with zero set)

    Different voltages in rechargeable batteries

Not quite, the 'grunt' of the tool is indicated by the Wattage (Power) that is produced to drive the tool Power (Watts) is calculated by multiplying voltage (Volts) by current (Amps) In order to prolong life, batteries tend to be current-limited i.e. they tend to be designed to provide a...

    SDS Drill

Only just, and Gerry beat me by about 10 seconds 'cos I corrected a typo - you snooze, you lose.... :ROFLMAO:

    SDS Drill

With SDS bits, you normally apply some grease to the end that goes into the chuck - it's fairly thick when applied but under sustained use the impact function generates a fair bit of heat which tends to make the grease a bit more fluid and it can run down the shaft if the drill is pointing down...

    Adblock

The best way I've found to block ads, malware sites etc. is to implement a whole-house solution so that all devices (wired or wireless) benefit. I run Pi-Hole on a virtual server in my attic but it was originally written to run from an SD card on a Raspberry Pi (so it's a cheap solution) that...

The shame of a tidy workshop

You're not the only one - I've got a relatively small workshop and you have to be tidy in a small space. I try to keep the workbench as clear as possible and all of my hand tools are put back in their cases when no longer needed for the job in hand (or when I stop for the day) and the cases...

    Shaving

In truth, I'd probably agree with you - but SWMBO has an aversion to beards and, as a consequence, nookie wins... ;)

    Shaving

I've experimented with several electric razors over the years, trying both foil and rotary types in corded and cordless varieties - and some of them were very expensive. I never really got on with them as I found that, after a while, I experienced either skin irritation or dry patches, so I...

    Puzzling email question!

Thunderbird can sort by 'Date' or by 'Received', and there's a crucial difference between the two 'Date' is the date/time stamp added by the sending computer when the email was sent 'Received' is the date/time stamp added by the mail server when the email arrived at the mail server Incorrect...

    Puzzling email question!

BT is sorting emails by 'Received' date/time Thunderbird is sorting emails by 'Sent' date/time It's fairly easy to spoof the 'Sent' date/time of an email as this can be done the machine/server that you use to send the original email and the sender normally has full control of that. Subsequent...

    Track saws and thin blades

If it is a heat/friction issue, is it worth trying making the cut in two passes - if the track hasn't moved the cut lines should line up perfectly. If it works, it may not be ideal but at least it's a solution that would work with the blades you have available.

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

You may have to mock something up to see what height you prefer as the height will also affect your view of the work, not so much an issue for straight cuts but may be for curves. I have mine with the table slightly below the bottom of my sternum/breastbone - that works well for me as I find it...

    Electric planer

I used to have a 240v Bosch planer but replaced it with one of the Makita 18v cordless units - wish I'd done it sooner, brilliant machine and an electric planer is one of those tools where the lack of mains cable makes such a difference.
