    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

I do want to make some wooden planes one day. At least a scrub plane for starter. And now I think I should consider making a bigger try plane or a jointer. I will use metal planes to make wooden planes. Also to correct wooden planes. Then I would definitely stick to #7, one plane to make them all!

    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

Thanks David (@D_W), a lot of thoughts to process and interesting too. And thank you for the cap iron campaign, without it my beloved Custom #7 most likely would not have cap iron! (y) There is friction with metal planes, quite noticeable too. At times it is simply not possible to fine plane...

    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

Veritas Custom #7 weighs 8 lb 9 oz (3500 g), not very heavy, unlike Clifton or even Quangsheng/JUUMA that weights 3820 g. Looks very slim too: Wouldn't know if that is too much or critical as my dimensioning sessions never exceeded 2 hours or so. Good exercise for body though and I gained...

    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

I did that for some years, dimensioning and smoothing all stock. Only recently I started to learn and use machines. Since you have already #4, I would suggest #7 (or #6 at least), rather than #5. This is by far the most used plane for me, #7. It is set as medium cut and occasionally as fine for...

    Abrasive Pads--Rust

Used red one for a while. But then tried rust removing gel and now I prefer it: RESTORE RUST REMOVER GEL - 250ML 211834 It is not agressive and non-toxic. I can just apply it with paper towel and for small area without any gloves.

    [Beginner] Chamfering dog holes

I used countersink bit in cordless dril. This one that I have: Famag 1775 Countersink, 1775.025, 25 mm. https://www.famag.com/EN/Home/Products?pro=2676159b-2066-4c89-988c-3d9351e72310 It works way better than any cheap countersinks that I have. No chatter, no wavy chamfer in wood.

    Woodworking for cats

My wife (and my daughter) wanted to have a cat. But being more a dog person she wanted to have a Maine-**** cat which is kind of big cat with some dog-like character. In the end we've got 2 sister cats of this breed. But Maine-***** are also very large cats. So I decided to build a cat's tree...

best type of waterstone to sharpen V11 plane blade

I use Cerax (1000 and 6000, sometimes 10000) with my Veritas PM-V11 blades. Tried a few others but didn't like them (NANIWA 3000/8000, Rozsutec Whetstone). Have coarse DMT dimond stone for flatening the stones (except Rozsutec, that can probably destroy it). Tried Cerax 400 but it is not very...

    Dowelmax, Jessem and XL700

I got tired of marking, clamping, drilling, blowing chips, adjusting jig and drilling again. Spent like 4 kg of dowels, 8 mm by 40, and two kg of 12 mm by 50. I used Jessem jig with them. So recently I got domino and drilled 96 elongated holes in an hour, including marking, and no chips to...

    Dimensioning by hand

I was dimensioning by hand because my workshop is in my apartment. Now I learn how to use P/T because I got a room in the basement to rent. On one hand, it sometimes surprises me how fast I can get it flat and with square sides. On the other hand, if I have to do it that 16 times it kind of...

    Domino sizes and width

I see! So, there are no really dowels with distance between centres 19 and 23?

    Domino sizes and width

Good day everyone! I'm planning on getting FESTOOL DF 500 soon, got tired of drilling dowels and my next project kind of begs for it. However, I can't decide which size of dominos would suit my parts with cross-section 43x39 mm. I can't find the dimensions of different dominos. Like there is...

    16amp circuit

By the way, does it mean that B 32A is basically the same as C 16A? I would hope that even C 16A would eventually trip if there is current exceeds 16A for some time...

    16amp circuit

In my case, I have 20 m of 4 mm² 5 cores wire on C 16A breaker. That is below 200 mOhm. Also have some WAGO connectors along the way, each probably adding below 5 mOhm. CE 400 V socket and plug might add some too. However, maximum is 1370 mOhm in some yellow book, so should be fine. In another...

    16amp circuit

I'll second that! Don't forget to use type C for inductive load, like a motor. It should be written "C 16A" on the miniature circuit breaker, not "B 16A".

    Newbie + a question

I don't think you need 25A fuse, but defenitely it should be 'C' type protection. In fact, even even 13A with 'C' curve might be enough. So many times I see in comments to install 16A or 25A fuse while the load will only draw high current for a short period of time and while running will...

SHOW ME- Your plane storage ideas

Here is my cabinet, not yet fully arranged but already functional: Found this idea somewhere in internet. Hand planes are resting on panel that is 15 degree to the wall - it is actually enough already for them to not tip and fall down. But there are some planks that hold the top of them just...

Thinking of getting a Makita 2704... Or is there better for the money?

Felder also has some safety mechanism. It hides the blade under the table and electronically restartable (no cartridge to change). But it comes with their top model and for a much higher price: Felder Preventive Contact System

    Morticer or pillar drill

Right, there is no life without either of them! :) I consider this to be as one machine: I can even use drill press table as continuation of morticer table. Record Power FM25 comes with its own stand but I much more prefer to have it on this bench. Since it is no longer floor standing (F in...
