Electrical Question: Using a contactor in-line with a tool to control my dust extraction

Yes, that might work. I recently installed GRT8-B1 in my box inline with heating after I forgot to switch off heating and it burned electricity for two weeks... There are two variants, A and B, and then number of contact pairs. A is for delay on - it switches on after delay, and B is for delay...

Festool table saw TKS 80 EBS 230v

Isn't it more about blades than saws, really? I rip with TS55 beech and oak of 50 mm thick just fine. I only have to change the blade to one with less teeth - 20 teeth for 160 mm disk in my case. And if saw starts to tilt during cut no power will help. The same goes about bandsaws. I see people...

Makita Battery Drill Chuck DHP 482

I bought extra chuck for my Makita 484, the one that is going for 481, that is made from metal - Keyless chuck Makita 763248-2; 13 mm. Very decent chuck.

    Bench Buffing Machine

Was contemplating over Kirjes/Guinevere sanding system and then using that motor with two chucks also with polishing wheels.

    Bench Buffing Machine

This is very unclear to me too, what polishing/buffing machine should be and where to get one... I see a lot in videos that carvers use buffing machines a lot, in fact, they mostly buff and never sharpen their tools. Jewelers use buffing and polishing machines, but rather small ones. Metal...

    Workbench

Well, one is 30 kg, another is 44 kg. I bought something similar, namely Sjöbergs Junior/Senior workbench, for my kids (although they apparently do not need it nor use it, ahh). Vices are not anything special and rather basic, compared to Veritas dual screw that I have on my bench that I built...

Hand planing hardwood - bad idea?

I'll second that! Lubricating makes it three times easier. Google for methods. After resawing it is all bumpy and you don't get shavings at first but dust. Don't set it to cut deeper but instead continue plaining until you see shavings. Don't cut too deep! It shouldn't need more power than a...

Festool Connecting piece FSV/2 - Alternatives

I use Makita connectors with mine Festool rails - MAKITA 198885-7 - just £16.00 for two connectors (I got them for 24 EUR a year ago). With the help of a straight edge, of course. And it is better than original Festool 482102 as it doesn't dig into the rail with those bolts... New Festool...

    Smoothing plane

Right, if no joiner or too wide for the jointer then sure. I just went all way in and got 410 mm wide planer/thicknesser or jointer/planer… or jointer/thicknesser ;)

    Smoothing plane

Not really, usually the other way around. Rough with machines and then final touches with hand planes. Only started to use machines this year. Previosly, I had to prep and dimension with hand planes alone, from rough to finish. I found this article to be useful, also if you want to know how...

    Smoothing plane

You could use Low Angle Jack for everything. Maybe with additional blades for different angles. Especially since you are hybrid woodworker and machines usually produce pretty flat surfaces, jack size plane is good or smoothing too. So, why new plane? What new plane should bring? Well, it...

    Batteries and chargers (AA/AAA)

Pro costs like double the price of regular ones on Amazon.de. They have bigger capacity (2500 vs 1900 regular), but also less charging cycles (500 vs 2100). Panasonic also claims that Pro can hold 85% of charge after one year. Whereas regular ("multiuse" they say) can hold 70% after 10 years...

Any electric oven experts in here?

Seriously, just sent it to me. With a good chance it can be fixed for like £20 for shipping here and back, and £20 for parts. Would be cheaper than £170...

    Batteries and chargers (AA/AAA)

Panasonic (previously Sanyo) Eneloop AA and AAA batteries are great. Have like two hundreds of them, mostly in children's toys and such. You can also buy empty shells for them of size C and D that are also happen in toys. And Panasonic chargers, those that can do 1 or more batteries, charge...

Any electric oven experts in here?

Well, looking at your pictures I see that it is very likely repairable by just replacing those relays. I've seen this with my oven. They do fail by burning out. When they switch load all kind of nasty things occur, sparks, arcs and such. There are, of course, situations when the chances are...

Any electric oven experts in here?

True, it is better to disconnect phase wire for that metter, not to electrify the whole device. Maybe fuse in the plug does that, and so they put second fuse in the netural? In EU and many other countries there is no fixed rule where is the phase and where is the neutral - you can plug device...

Any electric oven experts in here?

Don't you have a fuse in every mains socket plug? But even though, if you think it has to be somewhere in the circuit. Connecting it to neutral has also a benefit - you can swap it live, there is a difference between touching neutral or touching phase wire. That would be my guess.

Any electric oven experts in here?

Looks like relay has burned out and now is permanently switched on. Should be repairable by replacing that white rectangle to a new one. Or better yet to replace them all, not to have more problems soon again. My oven had similar problem. One relay was was leaking current when switched on and...

    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

Oh boy, I'm so glad that it took me ONLY a year or two to find the proper authority, like The English Woodworker. I did fall into the trap of bevel up planes superiority and table saw necessity after watching American woodworkers and reading American magazines. Americans are good at selling...

    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

Never tried, but always wanted. I have fear it is somewhat hard to find the proper one. Should it be byproduct of oil, the paraffine one? Or wax as bee wax? Modern candles are full of other stuff, and they are often packed in plastic...
