What size timbers for a belfast sink stand?

I love the idea, but in all honesty I think that's beyond my skills. I don't have half the tools. And it would take me so long I'd be looking at a divorce. On top of that, being the first thing of this ilk I'd have ever attempted, I think it's likely to be a bad enough result that it could...

What size timbers for a belfast sink stand?

That makes perfect sense, thanks for explaining. So now onto another question that is so woodwork basic it probably shouldn't be allowed on the forum.... Do I need to make all four legs as per A above and if so what's the best way of doing so? Or can I do A on the longer laterals, and B on...

What size timbers for a belfast sink stand?

Many thanks to you both. I'll read those posts a couple of times over and look at the diagrams in more detail before replying. Just to make sure I've got my had round it all. "In compression". Sorry to be thick and so elementary(!), but what exactly does that mean? Is it referring to when...

What size timbers for a belfast sink stand?

Thanks everyone that's really helpful. @Droogs - it seems to be only the small plank next to the wall that is sat on the brackets, and the main board is floating above it. Or is that just how the photo makes it look? Odd thing to ask perhaps, but I don't suppose you have still got that...

What size timbers for a belfast sink stand?

Hi all Excuse the very basic questions! I'm at the low end of DIY skill and knowledge, but willing to give things a go. I'm looking to make a kitchen unit which will have a belfast sink at one end. I've got a reasonable plan for most of it, but the sink is a full size old one and really is...

Worx WX426 85mm Plunge Circular Saw - No Load (Rated) Speed vs Maximum RPM

Hi all I've got the above saw and have just bought a replacement blade for some rough work I need to do. Here's the blade I got: https://www.toolstation.com/thin-kerf-tct-blade/p79737 It says Max Speed 7000 rpm. The manual only gives one spec for speed: No Load (Rated) Speed - 3600/min...

    Which driver bits?

I bought a fancy Bahco screwdriver years ago, the type with the bits stored in the head. They have been brilliant. They are often also used in my cordless drill as well. I'm not sure if you were to buy separate Bahco bits whether they'd be the same as those that came with the screwdriver. But...

    Misheard lyrics

The Nights / Knights in White Satin is hilarious. Never occurred to me either that it could possibly be "Nights" and yet now it seems so obvious. Even so, I still do - and forever more will - picture satin robe clad knights eerily and slowly moving on horseback through some misty enchanted...

What to use to fill large gap around extractor vent pipe?

Bit of an aside, but relevant to the post, when using mortar for repairs such as these should the substrate get a coat of PVA first? I was hoping to do it in the morning, and I don't have any PVA, so that will slow things up. But if it makes a lot of difference and is recommended, then I'd...

What to use to fill large gap around extractor vent pipe?

Good thinking - hadn't thought of that... Any thing else anyone can think of that I could do to the pipe to help the mortar stick better? It's tough getting out anywhere at the moment and the pressure's on to get the job finished. I've not got any solvent cement unfortunately. Would...

What to use to fill large gap around extractor vent pipe?

Another thought too... Does it matter if the mortar and/or expanding foam bridges the cavity? I guess I thought that a small amount of bridging in the top corner wouldn't do any harm but am I wrong? Do I need to avoid it totally and at all costs? Someone has also suggested wedging in a piece...

What to use to fill large gap around extractor vent pipe?

Thanks @Richard_C I'd say it's a quite snug fit. I've got other fittings, such as a connector and an elbow. Those are very snug, and with either of them fitted I can lift up a 1m section of pipe holding just the connector. Can't do that with the vent louvre, it just pulls straight out. So...

What to use to fill large gap around extractor vent pipe?

Many thanks for the replies. As recommended, I'm going to go for expanding foam in the central parts of the hole. It would have been very difficult to reach them with sand/cement or anything else, so that's another plus point RE expanding foam. I'll then finish on the outside with sand/cement...

What to use to fill large gap around extractor vent pipe?

Hi folks Another general DIY query if you don't mind. I'm in the middle of putting up a kitchen extractor. The cooker is on an internal wall, so the ducting takes a right hand turn above the hood and runs for a meter and a half or so to the nearest outside wall. The previous hood had small...

Belfast sink - joining old waste to new 40mm trap and pipe

For the benefit of anyone coming across this in the future who finds themselves in a similar situation - and for the benefit of closure! - my plan changed again! Someone recommended this: https://www.wolseley.co.uk/product/mcalpine-t12-bsp-female-x-male-couplng-15-x-1-25/ I ended up getting...

Belfast sink - joining old waste to new 40mm trap and pipe

I've got to say, this is all pretty impressive advice for a woodworking forum! @Spectric - thanks for explaining and sharing. I've discussed that option with my partner and it's out on aesthetics as the trap would look quite odd and misplaced on the main pipe run. If you can see the first...

Belfast sink - joining old waste to new 40mm trap and pipe

The problem is - I think - that the waste pipe connects to the top of the toilet soil pipe, and that connection is 32mm. So the reduction has to happen at some point unless I change the toilet pipe. And I'd rather not go that far if possible. What's the downside of reducing from 40mm to...

Belfast sink - joining old waste to new 40mm trap and pipe

Thanks for the suggestion and I can see why it is a sensible one. But I really love the original waste and would much rather use that if at all possible. An update on the above though.... I've since learnt that the piece from the kitchen sink would not be suitable because the washer/seal is...

Belfast sink - joining old waste to new 40mm trap and pipe

I'm unable to leave the house at the moment, so haven't picked up a McAlpine T12A-F as of yet. But I was mulling it over just now and took the waste pipes off my kitchen sink to see what they have. Turns out that what I have on the 1/2 side of my one and a half sink is just the ticket... Or at...
