    THE FOURTH OF JULY

Another scenario.... After the centre right have failed, if the "left" now fail (I don't consider current Labour left, but I think many do), what remains? A disillusioned, angry, poor population. Which leaves the door wide open for a beer swigging escape-goat blaming man to tell the people he...

    THE FOURTH OF JULY

Declared how? I'm genuinely interested. Although perhaps by exposed they mean exposed to the public. I've not heard it discussed on MSM. On a similar note, I found this very interesting...

    THE FOURTH OF JULY

I don't wanna take sides as I can see both sides. The disruption caused is well known and documented. So let's look at it instead from an historical context with, let's say, the suffragettes. Hugely disruptive. Radical. And in comparison their cause was trivial IF what many scientists are...

Keir Starmer and gratuities... What do folks think of this?

    THE FOURTH OF JULY

Regarding privatisation of the NHS, I read recently the idea that what's happening to dentistry is a trial run for what may happen to all healthcare. Basically, underfund to the point of collapse, as those who work in the NHS have been saying is the case for the last decade plus...

Eco Wood Treatment (ecowoodtreatment) - has anyone used it?

Hi I've found a few threads about this stuff but not many. So I thought I would make a new thread to ask whether anyone has direct experience of using it? If anyone has used it a long time ago, how has it held up? Even if you haven't used it, any thoughts on its effectiveness? To begin...

    Roof insulation

Just to be clear... Is it a vaulted ceiling (i.e. no loft space)? What is the rafter depth? Do you have beams, A-frame, etc that you want to leave exposed on the inside? What are the current and proposed ventilation requirements? I'm no expert but having done a fair bit of reading...

Wood stove: Insulating above the closure plate, is it common? Good idea?

Many thanks for the replies The void wasn't filled with anything. Not sure why. Can't remember if it just wasn't discussed at the time or whether the fitter had reasons not to. I know access to the top of the opening in the loft is restricted, so that might have been a reason. Anyhow, it...

Wood stove: Insulating above the closure plate, is it common? Good idea?

Hi all I've got a wood burner installed in a builder's opening. Single wall flue into a flexible chimney liner. The thin steel closure plate is higher than the lintel in front - i.e. you can't see it when stood in front of the stove. I therefore often wonder how much heat gets "trapped" in...

Workshop burgled, now my tools are on eBay

It costs £90 p.a.? Or You cost £90 p.a.? You're hired if so! Snuck through your spell check? ;)

    Bloody cold shed!

I must admit, I was thinking the same as I read through this thread. I can see how shelter helps to keep things a little warmer by giving a barrier to the wind and frost. But can't see how adding insulation would achieve anything without a source of heat inside. With regards stopping tools...

    Wood burning - Lime

I agree. Wood stoves are so quick and easy to get going that I really so no need to keep it in overnight. Especially seeing as it makes the glass dirty and can potentially have ill effect on the flue....

Getting a Multitool - stick with DeWalt? Or get Milwaukee and a battery adapter?

That's good to hear. I think I had a dose of carpal tunnel last month after some rather heavy work and long days outside. So I'm trying to be more careful now....

    Under the kitchen sink....

Very neat :) Do you / others prefer a U bend to the bottle trap? Or is there not much in it?

    Under the kitchen sink....

We had the same problem. Not only that, but I think the high pressure has more potential to cause leaks... The water company added a PRV for free; outdoors next to the meter. I agree, and when we had some plumbing work done after moving in I had the plumber replace valves in the airing...

Getting a Multitool - stick with DeWalt? Or get Milwaukee and a battery adapter?

Thanks everyone for all the help today. I've gone for the 356 with the x3 speed settings. It has lower vibration that the 355 (as @TheUnicorn pointed out), which is a big bonus for me. I managed to pick it up for £112 with a 35 piece accessory set AND a T-Stak case. Very impressed I was...

Getting a Multitool - stick with DeWalt? Or get Milwaukee and a battery adapter?

Thank you all for the further replies. I think I'm going to stick with DeWalt... Now just need to decide between the 355 and 356 variant. Seems the main (only?) difference is the three speed settings of the 356. Is it worth paying more for that? Any other differences between the two...

Getting a Multitool - stick with DeWalt? Or get Milwaukee and a battery adapter?

Many thanks for the replies and thoughts. Great stuff for me to consider. More always welcome. @paulrbarnard - the DeWalt for your daughter too? Strange timing :) @Luckosaurous - I guess I need to get out more.; I had to look up guybrater! Sometimes I wonder if I should have "safe...

Getting a Multitool - stick with DeWalt? Or get Milwaukee and a battery adapter?

Hi I've been after a multitool for a while... I only have two cordless tools, a drill and an impact driver, both DeWalt. No plans to buy more any time soon, apart form the multitool. So my first thought was to stick with DeWalt. But having looked into it some more, the Milwaukee gets great...

    Wood burning - Lime

@Jacob - perhaps you've already said in other threads, but do you mind if I ask what stove you have and/or what stoves you recommend, in terms of make/model? Many thanks
