What to use for window frames and pains? Also need a filler.

Hi all I've been re-decorating my external wood windows and need to do some maintenance as part of the work. At the moment I'm looking into how to reseal around them and make them weatherproof (where the wood meets the bricks). Before I ask any questions, I thought I'd best check that such...

How to get external windows back to bare wood....?

Thanks for all the input guys. I've decided against the bare wood idea now and will definitely be painting. I'm looking at the following paints at the moment and any thoughts from people who have used them would be great: - Marston and Langinger - Beckers (from Sweden) - Sadolin Superdec...

Anyone used Marston and Langinger exterior eggshell?

Hi all Just a quick one.... We're having our windows painted over the next couple of weeks and trying to decide on a paint... Marston and Langinger do some great colours and as a bonus their factory is just up the road. But i cannot find hardly any reviews... I wondered if anyone here has...

How to get external windows back to bare wood....?

Thanks Jacob - much appreciated. RE: underneath. As I read and understood it, the linseed based paint is effective because it penetrates and soaks into the wood; as opposed to some/most paints which sit on top of it and form a seal. And that seems to be why they say it will not be nearly as...

How to get external windows back to bare wood....?

Thanks for that. Funnily enough, I was just reading about Holkham paints (and Holkham is just up the road fro me).... It does sound good, but my reservations are: - Their website says that for the paint to achieve the results they claim, the timber would need to be back to bare... It...

How to get external windows back to bare wood....?

Hi guys A bit of an update and addition.... If we cannot get it to bare wood sufficiently, or if the bare wood looks crap, then we are going to look to paint them. But if painting, do we still want to get rid of as much existing paint/stain as possible? I've been told in the past that it is...

How to get external windows back to bare wood....?

Hi all I want to get my wooden windows sorted before winter reaches us.... I'm not sure what's on them at the moment, whether it's paint, varnish or woodstain. But it is peeling/flaking off in places. Is there a best method for removing and getting them back to bare wood? Would heat...

Anyone here used Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus?

Certainly doesn't seem like a popular product or a commonly used one. The few reviews I found were very positive, but could not find many (hence me asking on forums). Will be interesting to hear if anyone else answers....

Anyone here used Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus?

Hi there I was wondering if anyone around here has used the following product: http://www.rubiomonocoat.com/en/products.php?id=7 on their floors, doors, windows, or any other woodwork projects? If so, would you mind sharing your opinions on its effectiveness to protect wood? I'm just a...

    Finish for oak door casing

I'm in a similar boat to the OP, and want a finish for my oak doors which will not darken or change the colour. I've googled Chestnut Oils but it just takes me to an Internal Error message. Do you know if Terry/Chestnut oils are still about and if so how I might get in contact with him? Cheers

Clear matt finishes for oak doors

I've edited and added a little to the above post. Also wanted to (rather cheekily) bump this as we are keen to get the doors finished ASAP so as to avoid any damage to them. Huge thanks... Max

Do you think these oak veneer french doors look any good?

HAHAHA - very good! I have not contacted them yet, but I think they will have others. It seems like they sell quite a few of them and in different sizes too... But you're right. I should check first whether they have more available now or will have more in future. I'll report back when...

Do you think these oak veneer french doors look any good?

Hi all Our existing french doors are quite knackered. We were thinking of doing them up a bit because we can;t really afford to replace them. Then I came across these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261006549820? ... 1436.l2661 I know in life you tend to get what you pay for... So I wondered if...

Query RE possible warping of oak doors...

Many thanks for the reply. I'll check them with the method you suggest, but can you tell me what you mean by "stile" please? The ledges are fixed with screws (with oak plugs for the holes). There are three ledges and no braces. They are closing properly, so there not too much of a bother...

Clear matt finishes for oak doors

Hi all We had some oak doors hung recently and are now looking for a suitable finish. We like the colour of the doors as they are now and so are looking for something which will not change the colour much/if at all. If the product DOES change the colour, our preference would be for it to...

Query RE possible warping of oak doors...

Hi all (and thanks for having me on the forum) We had some oak ledge doors hung at the beginning of March. They were unfinished and for various reasons we have not got around to finishing them until now. On looking at them earlier today it seems that a couple of them may have warped. I can't be...
