Alcro Bestå Fönsterfärg Trä System incl. base oil. Thoughts?

Hi all I've got new French doors being fitted at the weekend. I have an almost full tin of Alcro Bestå Fönsterfärg Trä (topcoat) which I bought for a job last year but did not end up using. So I'm planning to use that. What I 've either forgotten or failed to realise when I bought it last...

Everbuild Woodworm treatment? + Permethrin on dining table?

It's interesting because some people seem to take this attitude toward it (and that's certainly the feeling I have always had toward it myself). But since reading more and more about it, I think I have calmed down some. I've learnt that woodworm do not like wood that is kept in homes with...

Everbuild Woodworm treatment? + Permethrin on dining table?

Thanks Chrispy. And just to clarify, the underside of the table has a lot of much fresher holes (sharp edges). And there is a a lot of frass coming out of the holes when I tap it. So I think it is active....

Hi all Got some woodworm in our dining table which needs treating. The table has been oiled/waxed/stained/varnished (not sure which) in the past. It DOES water stain and mark quite easily. But we just tried putting a droplet of water on it and it remained beaded on their for a couple of...

Cutting down engineered/veneer doors to size

We are not set on oak..... Would be happy with other woods (pine etc). The trouble is that we have not seen any pine doors (or non veneer doors) that are cheaper. We are after something half glazed..... Any suggestions would be great! Also, I think that the veneer in the doors we are looking...

Cutting down engineered/veneer doors to size

Hi all We are looking for an internal door and the height needs to be 1942mm. We like the look (and price!) of some oak veneered/engineered core doors. But they all seem to only come in standard sizes, the heights of which are 1981mm. We've made some enquiries and it seems that taking 40mm...

Keeping brushes "fresh" and de-clogged while working....

Hi all I've found plenty of info on how to keep paint brushes clean and well maintained AFTER a days work. But I cannot find much about how to do this DURING a days work.... I often use two brushes, for example a small 18 or 25mm sash brush for fiddly bits, and a 1.5 or 2" for main sections...

Is it ok to use white spirit to remove sanding dust (oak)?

Thanks for the response John. Would it matter that meths has the purple dye in it? COuld that possibly discolour the wood? As for using a cloth dampened with water and then lightly sanding, would that not just cause a viscous circle in the sense that you then re-intrduce fine dust back into...

Is it ok to use white spirit to remove sanding dust (oak)?

Hi all Got some oak which I am finishing over the next few days.... After sanding, I have been using a dusting brush and a dry cloth to remove the dust. But I'm starting to fear that may not be enough.... I've brought Henry into the mix and have now started the clean up using Henry and a...

Many thanks for that.... I'm not too sure which product specifically to look at and could not find anything when I searched for B5. Would you mind telling me which product you guys have in mind?

What's the clearest "clear" product you've used for glazing?

Thanks Olly - I'll look into that later when I've finished for the day.... But just to clarify, can the tape be used for the final seal between glass and timber (once the windows are already installed and painted)? Or is it used only for bedding/when putting the glass panes into the frames...

What's the clearest "clear" product you've used for glazing?

Hi all For those who have read my other recent posts, the external wooden windows are slowly but surely being finished. I'm at the stage with some where I am ready to apply the product that will seal the DG panels to the surrounding wooden beading.... So I tried Dow Corning 799 this...

Geocel - the Works. Opinions and suitability....

Thanks Gaz. Someone else mentioned using dec caulk. I guess I had ruled that out thinking it was just for indoor use. I have DC 799 for the frame to glass sections. Interestingly, I do believe Geocel are part of the same company, though I'm not certain. Hopefully their products will be of...

Geocel - the Works. Opinions and suitability....

Hi all I'm always a bit wary before trying new types of product. I've bought a tube of Geocel - the works: http://www.geocel.co.uk/product.aspx?id=214&pr=wrks I plan to use it for: - Sealing around exterior door and window frames (wooden). In some places this is where the frames met the...
