    Bambu lab buying advice

One thing that put me off with Onshape was the way they try to market it by implying that any other downloadable software is likely to cost 10s and 10s of thousands after the initial purchase fee. It just seemed a little double glazing salesman to me.

This is actually one I’ve been looking at. Ideally I would have liked to have something with parametric modeling but I may have to go without that feature for now. I think I will probably have to go with a web based one like you say though as I’ve no plans to upgrade my computer any time soon!

Congrats on the purchase Martin, the P1S certainly looks like a nice machine. I went with the A1 and it’s currently sitting here waiting to be unpacked and used. Unfortunately I ran into a little road block when I tried to download Fusion as my Mac is too old to support it. Now exploring other...

In a way it’s good to know that moisture problems present quite obviously rather than finishing a print for it to fall apart to find out! That is shocking how much of an affect it has though.

Fair point. I had similar thoughts about the downside to leaving moisture sensitive filaments on the AMS. It also made me think about dust settling on the reels in an unenclosed environment.

Decisions decisions! It sounds like the A1 is going to be a great machine to learn on and something that will still prove useful to keep even if I decide to upgrade further down the line. As fleyh pointed out in post#2 there are likely to be frequent upgrades coming out and I would think that by...

    Bambu lab buying advice

Looking into this a bit further Bambu say on their website that ABS, although not ideal on the A1 for larger prints, is fine for small prints but while observing the need for good ventilation when doing so. It sounds like a greater chance of warping and delamination/poor bonding for larger...

    Bambu lab buying advice

This raises a point I hadn’t really thought about. I was thinking about not getting the AMS add on as I don’t intend to print multiple colours in one print but I hadn’t considered what you’re saying about changing filaments between prints. How much effort is it to change filaments for different...

Thanks for the replies. It’s good to hear the positive comments about Bambu generally as a brand. Interesting to know that the A1 was designed based on their experiences of the P1 and X1. I think in reality the P1 is more than I will need for now. My thoughts were the extra filament options...

Hi, I’m about to take my first plunge into the world of 3D printing and would appreciate a little advice before I proceed. I’m a complete novice with no experience of 3D printing or any type of CNC. I’ve experimented with using CAD but only very briefly with a free trial, so again no...

    Woodworking Square recommendations please

Same two as I have. I even bought the 750mm straightedge, similar price to the Veritas 600mm.

    Woodworking Square recommendations please

It sounds like you are after something large, so I would echo what others have said about using sheet materials or one of the popular cut and check techniques. However, for an engineers square I can recommend Kinex. I recently bought a couple of squares from Workshop Heaven after originally...

Dust extraction, am i over thinking this? Advice please.

Thanks for your input Scubadoo. I went for the Camvac twin motor after all. After I’ve given it fair use I will report back on how I find it. It just arrived the other day and I haven’t gotten round to connecting it up and using it yet, but I have switched it on and first impressions are it’s...

Dust extraction, am i over thinking this? Advice please.

I have an air cleaner(ac400) which I seem to have found a good location for. I’m tempted to add another one though to the other side of the room. They’re relatively cheap so it’s an option worth considering. I treat these as more of an added bonus to dust extraction though, as you rightly...

Dust extraction, am i over thinking this? Advice please.

Cheers. I’m planning to put a separator before the extractor, probably a cyclone. Hopefully that will reduce the frequency that I have to clean the filter. It is one aspect of the extractor that I’m not so keen on but I have to compromise a little I suppose.

Dust extraction, am i over thinking this? Advice please.

Sorry to hear you have COVID, wishing you a speedy recovery. This clarifies things for me further and has certainly helped me gain a better understanding. By fines, are you talking very fine like sanding and MDF? By what you’re saying that’s a problem for most small workshops anyway, so not...

Dust extraction, am i over thinking this? Advice please.

Thanks Pete, this makes a lot of sense and also confirms some of my own interpretations. Right now that cam vac is looking very promising. Unfortunately external venting isn't an option but I've seen an interesting idea on youtube for making a silencing box for the cam vac. Here is a copy and...

Dust extraction, am i over thinking this? Advice please.

Hmm, Brian 1-0 the newbie, well played and i will take it with the good humour that I'm sure it was meant. I'm not upset by the joke so please don't see this as a snappy response, but i think i might need to clarify some points: Just to be clear to anyone who has taken the time to read this...

They don't do this model anymore but looking at the specs they have similar models. I have been looking at the axminster models and their workshop models seem better suited than their professional range(I realise the professional range are built to last longer). Thanks.
