    Pre Hung External Entry Door

Thank you for that Ollie. I have watched a couple of videos on YouTube about the fitting and I like the speed and ease of installation, I'm time poor at the moment so this would suit me. Why would there be a difference between a wooden pre hung and a composite one with regards to taking the door...

    Pre Hung External Entry Door

I need to replace my back door and frame, I'm thinking of installing a pre hung door but I have no experience of them. The back of the house gets a lot of battering from the weather with lots of driving rain! Oh, and it would have to have a cat flap cut into it! Does anybody have recommendations...

    Paint stripper

The thick varnish might well be crystal varnish so it would be worth giving it a scrub with some meths first. If not the only strippers that work well are the Dichloromethane based ones such as Paramose but Peelaway 7 is also good as Jake suggested. You can get the 'proper' stripper from any...

    Scissor lifts

I have an old hydraulic hospital bed which I bought after injuring my back some ten years ago. I wished I had bought it years before, it makes working so much more comfortable, no matter what I am working on it only takes seconds to get the bench to the right height. It is of course a little...

    Finish for Oak Bathroom Vanity

I have a job next week which is a vanity unit, it is in fact a Louis XV walnut commode with the top converted to take two wash basins, whoever converted it must have used a wax finish, it is covered in water stains and looks awful. I would normally use Osmo to refinish something like this but...

Wall mounted wifi controlled fan heater

"Is a mini split something you would consider? Pete" That sort of devise was not even on my radar, thanks for the suggestion but I have already ordered a curtain fan heater in combination with a fused spur and a wifi socket I think overall it will be the best solution for me.

Wall mounted wifi controlled fan heater

Thank you for all the suggestions. Robbo, I had looked into the diesel heater idea, I really like it but in the end dismissed it because there would be times I would run out of fuel and being in deep country it would mean a 45 minute return journey to get some so I need 'on tap' fuel! Wickerman...

Wall mounted wifi controlled fan heater

Does anybody use a wall mounted fan curtain heater in their workshop? I am thinking of getting one installed before the cold sets in. I don't have any floor space left and not much wall space but could put one over an internal door. A heater that works off an app would be ideal so I can turn it...

    Grinder advice needed.

Whenever a sharpening thread comes up a lot of negative comments get posted about the Tormek, particularly on how slow it it. I wonder how many people posting these comments have actually used one! I have a Tormek T7, I can tell you it is not slow, working with antiques I regularly get chips in...

    Grain filling - finishing ash

Hi donperereira. Have you made a display easel or an artists easel? What is this 'wax based cherry stain'? Is it the Osmo oil with a cherry tint? if so you will not need to worry about a grain filler but Ash does not take stain very well so if you want to apply colour to it it would be best to...

    Axminster AT310SPT spiral planer thicknesser

I too have the Axminster 310 with the spiral cutter, as the comments above it is a great bit of kit, the spiral cutter block is quieter than my bandsaw and leaves a very smooth finish. The only real downside as Johnnyb said is it can only cope with taking 1.5mm off hardwood which is a real bore...

Advice on restoring an antique brass bound box

Hi Johnny, I was wrong it is not a writing slope and those groves on the left hand side would give two deep square compartments and one rectangular one in the middle. The baffling thing is the zinc paper on the side as this was usually used to line tea caddies! Are there any other missing...

Advice on restoring an antique brass bound box

Hi Johnny. your ‘Ditty’ box is an early 19th century writing slope probably made about 1820. It is a quality piece with what looks like Rio Rosewood veneer. (I’m on holiday at the moment and viewing this on my phone, I will be back home at the weekend when I can have a proper look and give you...
