    INTERLINKED SMOKE AND HEAT ALARMS

It is about time I upgraded my smoke alarms in the house. I like the idea of the interlinked ones especially being able to have a heat detector in the kitchen and smoke detectors else where. Does anybody have experience/advise on brands?

    king Size Mattress price

We have an OTTY memory foam mattress which is really comfortable and has ended my morning back and hip pain, it was about £500 for a king size, the only downside is it is very hot. One of my customers specialises in four poster beds, the hand made mattresses she puts on them cost around £8000, I...

    What is this ?

I have not seen that one before but guessing it must be a floor wax as with that cap it is meant for pouring. I would use white spirit rather than turps but either way it should still be useable.

    Replacing leather top on desk

Alex, fitting a leather to a desk is fairly straightforward. There are two ways to do it, firstly take the desk or just the top to a leatherer, that way you will get the best job. The other way is to measure your top and order a leather over the phone, decide what colour you want and what sort...

    Restoring 18C longcase clock case

Rowan, you have been given some good advise here and I would agree that doing the minimal amount is the way to go. The first thing to do is to glue down any lifting veneer or loose mouldings etc with either scotch/pearl glue or better fish glue which will give you much more time to line things...

White French polish - does it separate?

Yes perfectly normal, just give it a shake when you either decant it or are about to use it.

    Mitre saw

What you need for fitting shelves into wonky spaces is a Ticking stick.

    Furniture reviver and white oil.

Here is my recipe. One third raw linseed oil, one third turpentine ( or white spirit ) one sixth meths and one sixth ammonia. Put into a strong glass bottle ( HP sauce or vinegar ) give it a good shake before use. Apply with a rag or fine wire wool. This reviver will remove ring and bloom marks...

    Droppings in the garden ???

That very interesting suffolkboy and make sense. We have a wildlife camera which was set up last night but it was a misty/ foggy night and the lens got misted up so we will give it another go tonight.

    Droppings in the garden ???

Clogs, Owl is what we are thinking. I did build a barn owl nesting box about four years ago which sits about fifteen feet up our ash tree so it would be very exciting if we had tenants.

    Droppings in the garden ???

Heron is interesting, we have a brook that flows through our garden and we have a resident heron called Herbert but we have never seen him on our section of the brook. The poo is tinged with purple which might suggest whatever it is may be feeding on ivy berries, as they are the only berries out...

    Droppings in the garden ???

Definitely not a pellet, there are no bones or feathers in it. It’s not too dissimilar to chicken poo but slightly larger and a firmer dare I say patè consistency.

    Droppings in the garden ???

Apologies for this especially if you about to eat. We have been finding these dropping in our garden and we are baffled as to who or what has left them. They seem to be bird dropping but are very large at 8cm x 3cm and have been in the same place below a large tree. So a change from the usual...

Welcome Richard. That is a very nice coffer you have made there. Is it Peter Waals inspired?

    Table restoration

You should not need to do much if any sanding. From the way the finish has 'beaded' in some areas it looks to me as though it had been coated with crystal varnish. You can scrub this off with meths and number 2 wire wool or a red scotch bright pad. You may have to go over it several times. When...
