Need a commission (a box for my poker chips) made.

These people make unique boxes http://www.wheathills.com/pages/handmad ... y-box.aspx but there are many more out there that specialise in boxes. If you type in "hand made box" into google images it will give you a little insight into what is out there.

    Lock repair -ers

Hi Dusty, when you say "slide" do you mean the bolt? If so, it looks to me as though there is a little wear on one corner but that does not look as though it is enough to stop it from catching in the keeper. A common problem with door locks is, the door shrinks and so the bolt will no longer...

Good dovetail saw for small hands?

Elfinsafety, I have the veritas dovetail saw and I use it mostly for making very small dovetails, it is an excellent saw, my only complaint with it is the handle is too small for my hands, I have medium sized hands so I should think this saw will suit you well.

    Quick-Grip Irwin Xtreme

Does any body use these Irwin clamps? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Quick-Grip-Irwi ... 98&sr=1-13 If so are they worth the extra? With the extra clamping pressure will they bridge a gap between a one handed clamp and a sash cramp? I have been using Bessey clamps for the past six years, they are...

filling grain in walnut for shellac

Plaster of Paris is an easy to use grain filler, however it does have a big drawer back. If you add pigment to it, that pigment will blow out leaving you with a yellowy white grain. How fast the pigment blows out will depend on how much daylight the piece is exposed to, so it may take anything...

    Cleaning waxed surfaces

9 times out of 10 the wood is completely sealed with one polish or another so the reviver does not come into direct contact with the timber, so darkening is not an issue. On the odd occasion when there is bare timber I have never noticed any darkening, even on bleached out mahogany and walnut...

    Cleaning waxed surfaces

To revitalize wax I would normally just apply another coat of wax, if the waxed surface you are trying to revive is dirty you could apply some wax on a wad of fine wire wool ( 0000 ) this will clean off any surface dirt. If you feel you need to take off the existing wax then you could use...

    Painted Drawer

Just an idea, if it does not mess with your design! Add a **** bead to the drawer, it will give you a positive line to work to so you can paint the top of the drawer front and on the sides take the paint to the join of the **** bead and drawer side.

Art Deco / 1930s Furniture Finish?

Art Deco furniture was French polished by hand, although spray polishing was being used in America it was not used here until the early 1950s. The polisher that I did my apprenticeship under worked in and around Bethnal Green and Hackney (which was the centre for furniture manufacture in London)...

Advice - What is the best fininsh for English Oak Furniture?

Hi Richard, There are many ways to finish your oak and which one you choose will depend on your level of skill. Maloof mix query

If your mix is not drying try adding a little terebene driers. "Speeds the drying time of oil and alkyd based paints and varnishes. Particularly recommended for adding to old paint and varnish that has become slow drying". http://www.agwoodcare.co.uk/prod/rustin ... ryers.html

    A little box needing help.

It may help if you heat the felt with a hair drier, it should soften the glue a little and give you a chance to re-align. looking at your photo it looks as though you have tried to fit the felt in one piece. The method I use is to get some card ( usually the card from a quire of sandpaper ) cut...

SMALL BRASS HINGES WITH ANTIQUE STEEL SCREWS

John, after you have plugged your holes, one trick you can use to stop the hinges going off centre is to put a little epoxy on the underside of the hinge, line up the lid making sure the lock is properly engaged and apply a light clamp until the glue is set. this should be just enough to hold...
