Morrells Walnut Oil based stain alternatives - Advice needed

W.S. Jenkins in Tottenham still make oil stains, I'm sure they will be able to match the Morrells colour. Have a look at their colour chart and if you send them the photo of the Morrells can with the stain on the label that will help them to give you the best match.

    Gel filled sandbags

They are bags filled with a powder, very light and store flat, when they come into contact with water they swell to many times their size and are supposed to be better than traditional sand filled bags, they also come in lengths up to 4m and are non toxic and biodegradable when you are done...

    Gel filled sandbags

Has anybody used gel filled sandbags? If so, did they do as good a job as sand filled bags and what was it like once filled? They are supposed to be reusable, are they? Any advise or comments appreciated.

    Thoughts on this furniture repair

Hi Tony. You have a very nice Robert Thompson (Mouseman) stool. The top is not bent but hewn out by hand with an adze. In perfect condition it would fetch around £500 in auction and probably over a thousand with a dealer so well worth doing a proper repair. It looks as though the Pickfords...

Matching antique pine - timber and finish

I think it is best to identify the panelling first. Can you get some photos. If it is pine and knot free it is most likely to be Pitch Pine which would look great cleaned up and waxed.

    mold

I would wipe them over with a rag soaked in a 50% solution of household bleach. When dry give them a wax with Renaissance Wax as Sideways suggested and then look at airflow as thetyreman suggested.

My father in law (in his late eighties) has been in hospital for six months. The hospital now want to discharge him to a care home. Sideways Pincers but for what

Like Cabinetman I have a pair of these, also for as long as I can remember, I rounded off the cutting edge and use them for pulling pins and tacks, I have always assumed they were an electricians tool but I don't really know what, if anything I have based that on!

    Tambour doors

Are you sure they have worn through? The top and bottom should have a shoulder on them where they sit in the channel and they need to be a loose fit or the door will stick when it gets pushed around the bend. Also, if the channel is plastic I doubt that it would have worn the door even with...

    Previous finish for refinishing

When you said the varnish remained sticky I assumed she had used a traditional oil based varnish, I am very surprised a water based varnish remained sticky!!
