    Bevel angle

He also accuses you of "fantasy woodwork" despite having the time for over 17,000 posts on this forum?!

    Bevel angle

I do use mortice chisels. You doubt they would fit in a guide? Maybe you would know they do if you had ever used one... (See how impudent that sounds now, Jacob?)

    Bevel angle

I always find this argument funny. Just because people did things one way for a long time doesn't mean it's any good. Would you prefer having surgery without anaesthetics, sterile conditions etc? That's the way they did it since the stone age after all! Mortice chisels fit in many of the most...

    Bevel angle

I disagree. I am perfectly proficient at free-hand sharpening, having sharpened knives for many years. However, when I sharpen with a jig it is faster, more accurate and more reliable too. I say learn both and see which you prefer. As to the OP's question. Usually chisels are ground at 25...

Help! Osmo Top Oil turned my walnut white!

Woah that is quite dramatic! As Rorton said, they do a few colour variations including white and "natural" which has white pigment in too. Can you check the label to ensure the number matches up with what you're expecting? I've had a tin of osmo which had an English label stuck over a label in...

Help! Osmo Top Oil turned my walnut white!

Putting something in the same room as a radiator should be fine, just not right next to it/above it.

Help! Osmo Top Oil turned my walnut white!

I think white spirits are the recommended solvent for osmo, might be worth wiping some over it to try and get some of the excess off. I find osmo really does need to be applied in very light coats, and I wouldn't put any finish above a radiator while it's drying/curing!

    Even though it's a second-hand private sale? That's a shame!

I'd be happy to post to Ireland, although I checked the royal mail website and it looks like the postage is around £8-10 more.

    Opinions on online woodwork tuition

I don't know much about paid courses or schools but youtube is a goldmine for learning a new skill! Check out Matt Estlea, he's a very talented woodworker who has a bit more of a modern take on the skill compared to many others on youtube. It's quite refreshing not hearing "I've been doing it...

    B&D urban myth?

Are you sure they weren't getting confused with cycle time? I.e. 10 minutes use before letting it cool down, rinse and repeat?

Sold Sharpening clearout - Shapton, Eze lap + other.

Hi, New year workshop clear-out time means I have some surplus sharpening stones. All prices include 1st class signed for P+P, if you want next day delivery or anything then that would cost extra. First is a Shapton 12,000 grit ceramic waterstone. This has barely seen any use, I only got it...

Low angle, bevel up jack plane

Using secondary bevels definitely makes sharpening faster, but just pick your desired angle and go for it.

Sanding plywood to remove Danish Oil

I may be wrong but isn't that just natural rippling in the woods surface? Oil finishes tend to bring out those features of the wood and it's normally one of the desired features of oil.

    Lovely plane this.....

As far as I'm aware Amazon basics looks at what is selling well, then they source a slightly cheaper copy (or even the same product with their name on it) to get the sales. People were already buying this junk so you almost can't really blame Amazon for taking advantage of it.

Anyone with a mill want to earn some beer tokens?

I knew someone would work out what tool was used! Luckily the exact tooling used isn't that important. So long as the distance between slots and width is right then the other measurements aren't that critical. It's good to know the price of that slitting saw is well within my budget if need be!
