    ***** question of the day....

I was told some years ago on an Outward Bound course that you lose 10% of your body heat through your head, never seen any scientific proof but you do feel a lot warmer when wearing a hat .....................(if you wore a Bowler you can keep your sandwiches inside :) )

    Robert Sorby RS2

Aha thanks Chris152 Goes to show that when your throwing out odd threads new and responding to old that you should look carefully at who has kindly replied :) Perhaps your the only person in the country who has one of these potentially 2 if I buy one as well.

3 jaw scroll chuck - how to dismantle

This might sound harsh but if its never going to move I would try the following. Put the smooth body part in a vice put a long stilson wrench on the knurled part and turn anti clockwise (most likely direction) and it should undo or if you don't have a tough enough vice then two stilsons will...

How to benefit from smart meters?

I said no to smart meters countless times then (British Gas?) came up with an idea they pay me £50 to have smart meters installed - ok so I took the money and they installed a smart electric meter but couldn't do the gas meter as they couldn't "see" each other/connect for reading. So I have...

    Record Disc sander

Agree Acetone (nail varnish remover) will do the job like meths

    Record Disc sander

White spirit is the problem, its quite good at removing sticky labels from things so may leave a residue on the disk. I would thoroughly clean with meths using not the white spirit cloth and give a final wipe over with a fresh cloth/kitchen paper towel with meths then let air dry. Then use a...

    Mallet ‘powered ‘ gouges

A point to note for Ashley Isles is that if you ever muck up the profile of a gouge they will re-sharpen/grind back to factory spec for a quite reasonable amount (about £2 each rings a bell)- they have done a set for me when I bought some used that must have been reground by an elephant wearing...

Replacement pillar drill column and base?

There is on on ebay has an entirely different stand and tube its in Barnsley, perhaps an option would be to buy this and swap parts around to get what you need and sell on the resulting drill? Might even break even? Well just a thought

    Record cl lathes

A Record lathe with 2 bars will be good - the more you spend the better it should be i.e. more speeds, longer bed - progressing to variable speed in due course; but by the sound of it this wont be a huge lifetime investment so buy something your budget is comfortable with and then enjoy. If you...

    MDF or timber skirting

If its going to be painted then I would go with MDF its stable, no knots to cause bleed through and I have found it good for mitred or other joints.
