teknatool Nova 3000 lathe bed extension

Hi Sorry Daniel it was sold a couple of years ago I think I still have a very good complete tailstock and half the fittings that went with the bowl turning attachment that fitted near the front of the lathe if they are of interest

Help saving an oak veneered front door.

The mikej460 door is still pretty solid and works well, for my money I would give it a good sand down then either stain then a good go with yacht varnish or simply coloured hatch varnish - should be a relatively quick economical repair that will keep the weather out of the door for several years...

    Live centre suggestions

Have you tried checking that the spindle and tailstock are in good alignment no harm in having a swift check. I assume the tailstock itself is not loose on the bed

    What Knotting Solution to use.

Aluminium paint takes a good bit of stirring as there is nice bit of sludge in the bottom of the tin better known as finely powdered aluminium (maybe flakes) was a very small tin - good old solvent based :)

    Record CL3 grub screw

Or if the pulley is now detached take that with you and you can easily try bolts starting at M6 -- then once you know the size if they don't have grub screws try elsewhere with your new knowledge. Some grub screws have different end profiles so as you have a sample its easy to find what you...

    Beer Can Widgets recycling?

Thanks all for the varied replies, I was thinking of an alternative uses - they are about 35mm diameter at the largest point and yes pretty tough they would be good for supporting things while they dry - not so sure for furniture use though

    Tormek Supergrind 2000

I had just found the same item as ajs but he beat me in posting the capacitor is just the job - 3mm larger in diameter - and I bet the existing has spade connectors as well. If not Halfords buy some connectors, crimp the connector with pliers no need to buy a crimping tool and job done

    Beer Can Widgets recycling?

So we all know empty beer cans have rattly plastic bits (widgets) in the bottom and yes they help give beer a foamy head when opened, but how many have opened the can and pulled out the widget? I've done it on a few occasions over the years just to see whats what and ignored them, yesterday I...

    Tyne Cub lathe issue

Seascaper Thanks for sharing the photos I've now got a target/standard to aim for. Been decorating a bedroom so this project is being delayed - have started removing the bed bar rust using a scotch brite cylinder shape medium grit (that I rediscovered part worn in the shed) on an arbor in my...

    Kenwood Chef motor

Ebay - is your best bet or put a wanted ad on Gumtree or Friday ad both free and you might pick one up. Ask for the entire machine - accessories not needed - not just ask for the motor.

    Handsaw ripping competition idea

I was told some years ago that lighter weight wood is quick grown and less strong than heavier which is denser and slower grown. Whether true ?

    Tyne Cub lathe issue

Thank you Seascaper and mick p. Mine has a little flaked paint on the motor as well, some came off in a 2" square sheet, the rest of the paint from memory should come up with a bit of wax maybe ultra fine wire wool and a bit of judicious buffing. Perhaps a little clear varnish used with artist...

    Tyne Cub lathe issue

Hi Mick p I'm not at home for a few days so work on the lathe has stopped for a few days. So far I have changed the power cable and removed the original Nova chuck that was well stuck - should it have had a spacer/washer between the chuck and spindle to stop it sticking? and thats it. The Nova...

    Tyne Cub lathe issue

Hi Seascaper If your lathe looks anything like that picture that well great, mine looks similar to yours except for the rust and peeling paint. About the paint colour, Ive just looked at the Hammerite page and there seems to be a gaggle of greens and smooth or hammered, if you still have the tin...

    Tyme Avon Motor Capacitor

Thanks I guess my Cub motor would be more or less the same and after googling for info yours looks like 1425 rpm, 6.3 amps when running and the W 750 perhaps its 750 watts + 1hp? which according to Lathesuk was an option so maybe yours has the uprated motor? Anyway that gives an idea of what...
