I have one of these chucks but without the blind set (grub) screw and leather (?) pad that is fitted in a hole on the chuck body that stops the chuck unscrewing when the lathe is used in reverse. Record Power can sell me as below for about £12 but I only need the grub screw and the right size...

Hi Unless you need to change the drive belt assuming its a one piece and not a link belt then why bother to take the spindle out?

Do as sheptonphil suggests your local glazing/glass suppliers will cut it either by hand or a diamond tipped saw

I think you need something absorbent rather apply more slippy stuff/oil of various sorts. Perhaps try ramming the hole with kitchen tissue/toilet paper and leave it there for a few hours it might absorb some, next try white spirits (lots) and wire wool to dissolve and scrape off the surface in...

Well I bought it and wow seriously heavy will have to be bench mounted or on the makers stand. I will need to discover what is the best height now as my current workbench is I think far to high
