    Timber ID - pallet wood!

I really hate to do this but it’s got me a bit puzzled. My wood ID is usually reasonable but I’m unsure on this one. It’s not actually a pallet but a topper for a load on a pallet so when the straps are put round it doesn’t crush it. It doesn’t appear to be pine with those flecks…. It has a...

Key switch to operate - where to buy?

I’ve had a quick search and there’s nothing that suggests you can’t turn the switch on, remove the key and walk away leaving it turned on with a maintained switch. All sorted now though but thanks!

Key switch to operate - where to buy?

That’s perfect - thank you. Nice and clear on the description for how that first operates. Exactly what I need.

Key switch to operate - where to buy?

Is maintained the term for ‘key has to stay in to operate’ ? That’s the less obvious part for my searching.

Key switch to operate - where to buy?

Hi, Can anyone help rather than me having to try a miriad of different search terms and lots of scrolling - proving fruitless so far! I want to buy a key switch to retrofit to a bandsaw. It’s a key switch where the key has to stay in the switch for the bandsaw to operate. My google-fu is...

Royal Mail - complete ban on bladed items from 22nd April

It’s because they’ve had another change of policy - they were going for a total ban on the RM network but are now going to allow them as they’ve probably realised how much money they’ll be losing out on!

    Wood ID please?

Pic 1 - looks like a distinct white sapwood to the brown heartwood. Pic 2 - the bark has the tissue paper outer layer with thicker fibrous layer underneath.

    Wood ID please?

    ****ing boiler system...

That’s quite impressive! I used to have some water hammer in this place when I moved in but not that bad. I was going to play at fitting a hammer arrestor but after fitting an extra length of pipe work and some flex to feed a freezer with self filling ice tray, it disappeared. Clearly enough to...

    First seeds of 2024

How does it work with the grow lights. Do they run constantly or do you have them coming on and off?

Royal Mail - complete ban on bladed items from 22nd April

What happens when it’s lost - no chance of compensation. A gamble!

Royal Mail - complete ban on bladed items from 22nd April

I haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere but apologies if it is a replication of an existing thread. Where previously Royal Mail would deliver bladed items via the age verification service, they’re now removing that option from the 22nd April. No chisels, marking knives, saws(?) wood planes...

    Woden Vice Restored.

Looks good in red! I have a couple of woden vices kicking about that could do with some love. I have thought of a green but red could work. Probably more vices than I have space for though!

    Seed Catalogues

I choose Real Seeds first! I find myself trusting them quite a lot - probably helped by the fact that they encourage you to save your own seed rather than buy from them repeatedly!

Brace bit in a regular, electric or pillar drill ?

I was just about to post the same. The torque on my wrist for a self driving unit in a decent power tool is hard going but easily solved with the pilot hole.
