    Fired up the genny yesterday...

Cheers, Spectric! (Again! Honda CRV dashboard lights one week, genny the next....!)

    Fired up the genny yesterday...

A long shot, but might be worth an email to Alex, at Dronfield Lawnmowers in the UK. Their website will show their address - I can't remember it off the top. He's a big fan of the "proper" Honda engines, before they started churning them out in Belgium (?) or wherever. It's probably a "no", but ....

    Fired up the genny yesterday...

The more I hear of reassurances that the UK will not be facing power outtages this coming winter, the more I suspect we will, so in readiness I thought I'd give the generator a fettle, fill it with some bleedin' expensive Aspen and give it a tug. Eventually burst into life, and I let it chug...

    Joke Thread II

"Kane, to put England level in the World Cup quarter final" - BBC match commentator. Pause for breath.... "Kane scores for England! Nobody does it better!" "Never ever in doubt, was it? Not for a second" added Danny Murphy. An hour-or-so latter, old Bill - one of those who wanders around the...

    Joke Thread II

My young grandson was born in Spain. He's surrounded by Spaniards, has been to a Spanish nursery and pre-school since he was one year old, yet he's not picked up a single word of their language. He's not even mastered the Spanish word for "please"! I say that's poor for four...

    Would you walk up?

Well, I took the plunge and booked a gutter cleaning boy for this morning... 130 quid, and even though I "warned" him about the 12' job probably needing a triple-ladder affair, he only turned up with a double. 90 minutes later, all gutters and downpipes cleared....but...the awkward one was...

    Would you walk up?

Y'know what? You're right! It's just short of 2 years since the roofing work was done, and having chatted to my better half for confirmation, it transpires that we didn't even get a receipt/acknowledgement of payment, let alone any written guarantee. (Before any of you think that the work was...

    Joke Thread II

Talking of the World Cup, have you noticed how most of the "foreign" ex-players who add their match analysis have a better command of English than the majority of our home-grown boys?

Any experience of wood splinter gone into your finger? - How did you get it out?

Nothing to do with splinters as such, but a few weeks ago I managed to get a "paper cut" from (of all things) a Morrisons supermarket shopping bag. Very straight, very clean...and stung like a good 'un! As I reached for a plaster, my better half uttered "Don't bother - try this instead..."...

    Would you walk up?

Don't think possible.... gutter circa 21' up, and extension and conservatory "stick out" around 17' from the gutter wall.

    Would you walk up?

Yes, that was an early thought I had too. Unfortunately, where the ladder would have to safely stand is a no-go because some ***** - me - decided to pitch a shed there! I decided that the only other way would be to lash an upright ladder to a cast iron downpipe...but there isn't one there, so...

    Would you walk up?

Funnily enough, I've just spoken to a neighbour who'd fitted some gutter "hedgehogs" (?) in the past in order to stop leaves gathering/blocking. I was surprised to hear that he'd recently removed them, as the leaves had built up/solidified to such an extent that rainwater was shooting over the...

    Would you walk up?

OK - here's my problem. The gutter marked in yellow is forever getting silted up with leaves courtesy of nearby trees. When it gets blocked, rain flies down the (white) gully, overshoots the yellow gutter and hammers on to the roof below. This is an old photo - the extension roof shown has been...

    New "mobile" workbench?

Sounds a grand idea, SammyQ. Thank you.

    New "mobile" workbench?

Thanks all. Yes, I tried the B&D step "idea" a few years ago, but found that my planing became even worse because of being out of balance all the time. I was hoping to see one of the designers of these workmate-type things had developed a unit with "splayed out" legs, but it seems as though...

    New "mobile" workbench?

By "mobile", I'm meaning the likes of the Workmate 425, Keter, Pegasus et al... Are any capable of being stable enough to allow hand planing, right to left? It's one thing being able to support a double decker bus, and clamping a 2x4 in order for me to saw an incorrect length, but planing?

What will happen to your tools when you die?

YOU might not be bothered, but the crematorium workers might be! They tend to go "BANG"!

Black & Decker Workmate - Do you?

I bought a B&D Wallmate sometime in the 80's (?) No back legs, a total of 3 worktables, one of 'em larger that could be placed between the 2 adjustable jobs. Two right-angled plates where the back legs would've been, and a metal catch so it could be folded up against a wall. Really handy until...

What will happen to your tools when you die?

A couple of days before my father-in-law was cremated, it was pointed out that he'd had a pacemaker fitted about 30 years before...and that he'd still got it, even though he'd lain in the funeral parlour for a fortnight. We had to contact his GP in order for it to be removed before the...

    Show us your workshop stuff

In my defence, I'm lumbered with an 8' x 7' shed. Since my wife has decided to kit out the cellar like an overflow to a Tesco store, everything has to happen in my 8x7 shed. Ergo, nothing happens in my 8x7 shed, because everything is thrown in there!
