    Losing a pet

"Gut wrenching". I truly feel your pain. I wept more for each of mine over the years, than I did when my parents died. Anybody without pets won't understand. Anybody who's lost a pet will totally understand. God bless you.

    What's this, chaps?

    Oh dear...

    What's this, chaps?

Inside cellar wall....it's like the crystal maze. If it glints any more under torchlight, I might open it up as Santa's grotto in a few weeks... The walls have been "painted" - with what? - over red brick at some time (previous resident, more than 25 years ago), but this white fluffy stuff is...

    Blade length?

    Spot on, squire. C'est vrai!
  5. C

    Blade length?

Correct - it's a "cut down" version of a Marquetry "Donkey", a very strange looking scroll/fret saw!

    Blade length?

Idling through some marquetry-related stuff I've kept over the years, I came across some plans for a scaled-down chevalet. I'd obviously considered having a crack at building it, but had soon realised that it was probably beyond my skill level, and it became buried. I remember I did think of...

    16 Amp Plug & Socket.....How Tight?

Many years ago I did some work with a team that did a lot of outdoor stuff, and it was common for them to have packed their 3 pin plugs with glazier putty (in an effort?) to make them waterproof... Nothing to do with the OP's original question, of course - but I've a feeling they used to smear...

Did you just see that …

And then add this.... https://eu.usatoday.com/videos/tech/2024/10/11/elon-musk-teslas-optimus-humanoid-helper-robots/75635625007/ ...how close are we to Skynet and "I'll be back..."?! :)

    Veneer press question

I've just bought a Thin Air press, 20mil vinyl, from France...it uses a hand pump (which turns out to be a simple job for wine bottles) Rather than use the messy sealant strip, I've also bought a "rod" affair from Airpress...a bit pricy because of carriage and VAT, but works fine.

I never thought that I'd say this but ...

"Trump's not reight int'eard" as they say around here...

    The things you find out....

But without the "hard" t's, obviously. For example, the word "brilliant" is pronounced "brillian" with an open gob utterance replacing the final letter. (As in "letter", come to think, but the open gob utterance would replace both t's) Oh. And finish using "ah" instead of "er"....

    The things you find out....

Or in today's terms, "That's like a brilliant like idea....."

    The things you find out....

Worrying, isn't it? Mind you, the number of people I know who don't watch/listen to "the news" is astonishing. Out with the dog yesterday, I bumped into a friend of mine who informed me that his sister-in-law and husband had just snapped up a short-notice holiday deal to Egypt. I happened to...

    The things you find out....

I've written this before, but it's still one of my "favourites".... Many years ago, sitting at a "Sound and Light" show opposite the Acropolis, which was being constantly maintained for obvious reasons... A Yank cruise ship had turned up at nearby Piraeus, and had the same show as one of the...

Lumberjack SS405 16" Variable Speed Scroll Saw

In that case, neither will I! There are a couple of your beloved Hegners on the you-know-what site at present, each around the £200 mark. Tempting. If only they were a bit cheaper.... The intention is to use jewellers blades (for marquetry pad/packet work) instead of the hand-held...

    The things you find out....

Is that grade the "norm" these days? Seems that everyone I know who "boasts" a degree claims a "2.1".... A chum of mine has twin daughters who achieved the same standard, but frankly their overall general knowledge is appalling. (Even their father says that they're both "thick as Boxing Day...

    The things you find out....

"Whatcha doin?" My son had just turned up, and asked the question. There was an odd smirk on his face, as if he considered that his old man had gone a bit weird... "What's it look like I'm doing?! I'm polishing my shoes..." Turned out that he'd never polished any footware. In his entire life...
