    3m flat roof span with 44 × 95 joists

Could you just get rid of the rafters completely? Assuming the roof is to drain from one long wall to the other, it's easy enough to get hold of insulated roof sheets that would be able to span the three metres in one go, with no woodwork needed other that the walls. You'd have to raise the...

First attempt at sand casting antlers

Sorry, was writing when you posted that. I'll keep an eye on this thread, I'm partway through building an electric furnace - a lot slower than gas, but we've got solar panels, so in the summer it should be very cheap to run. Wish I was better with wiring though, I'm having to put it all on...

First attempt at sand casting antlers

I was thinking of putting a shell of investment on the wax you take from the silicone mould and pouring the metal into that, butas you say, you'll have to heat the shell and burn out the wax, which means another heat source. If you're making a furnace, you could make a burnout oven at the same...

First attempt at sand casting antlers

I realise it adds a lot of work, but have you thought about making a silicone mould, then from that getting a wax cast of the antler, then using an investment mould for the actual metal? (You'd have to make a supporting shell for the silicone as well.) Like I say, loads more work, but all the...

First attempt at sand casting antlers

Very impressed! I'm guessing you lost some detail with undercuts and so on... What will you use to power your furnace for silver?

    H-beam buying?

Try asking your local builders' merchant. It's not cheap.

How do you feel about the safety issues? Should it be allowed?

Nice to see hook tools being used so well and love the chaff cutter at the start! Interesting to see a completely different take on lathes, too.

    Canabis farms

We agree that the police are underfunded, so why waste some of those funds on playing whack-a-mole in a battle they will never win? Free up those funds for other things, including caring for people who are harmed by misuse of drugs.

    Canabis farms

If it was legalised and people were free to grow their own or buy from licensed suppliers, the price would drop. Less profit to be made, less incentive for the criminals.

Eggbeater drills without heavy metal paint?

I have a very old Stanley model that I inherited, that will take up to 1/2" bits - not noticed any problems from the paint, but then I've never licked it...

    Canabis farms

I've known my share, believe me. There will always be casualties in life and I stand by my assertion that the money spent on trying to control the uncontrollable would be better spent in helping those casualties, whether of "drugs" or alcohol.

    Canabis farms

My comment was about taxation, which I thought I'd addressed. Home brewed beer and home grown tobacco are not taxed, so why would homegrown cannabis be?

If the price drops, so does their incentive.

    Legalisation doesn't necessarily mean taxation.

    Canabis farms

I think we're talking at cross purposes here: when I spoke earlier about quality control, I was referring to manufactured drugs, not cannabis, which is grown. A lot of the harm done by cocaine, amphetamines and the like is down to adulteration with other substances to bulk out the active...
