    Joke Thread II

Corsair was made from parts from the old ford 'Pubic'. (This is a joke thread after all, and that one does not get much of an outing these days)

    External wall tiles

The porch is cantilever from the building. All the others in the row have similar, with similarly oversize tiles. Thanks for the advice. I think that any work will certainly be done properly; we have budgeted for that.

    External wall tiles

Useful tip. I assume you mean between the battens and the wall......

    External wall tiles

And maybe has not replaced the porch correctly; and maybe used over size tiles..... The other properties are rendered (quite an acceptable finish as far as I am concerned). I Appreciate that the tiles may be there instead of render. It seems from the comments that this is not indicative of...

    External wall tiles

They sure do. A lot of weight over your head ;-( And not reassuring that the porch is on the skunt.

    External wall tiles

That makes a lot of sense. I guess that I am trying to figure out why the tiles are there in the first place. If they are purely cosmetic then removing and making good seems the sensible option. The other houses in the row don't have them so my guess is that they could be cosmetic..... but...

    External wall tiles

Hi all, we are thinking of buying a property but there is some remedial work to be done. Most of it looks straightforward, but I do not understand the implications of the slipping external tiles. The porch seems to have slumped a little, but not having much experience of this kind of thing I...

    Potje Firebasket? Drilling cast iron?

What an excellent idea. I will keep my eyes open for a bean can..... An easier solution for my skills and tools, less destructive of the potje, and it may reduce the likelihood of cracking the CI too.

    Potje Firebasket? Drilling cast iron?

Some interesting information (and diversions) here. Thanks. The 'modern' equivalent 'stoves' are made with an outer jacket that allows a flow of air from the bottom to be injected at the top. The price got me thinking about converting the potje though.

    Potje Firebasket? Drilling cast iron?

Since I do not eat meat, I will give that a miss..... thanks anyway. My first plan will be to try a fire in the pot without drilling - it may work....

Interesting link. It sounds as if you need to start a center-left 'other climate party' to attack the complacent left climate ignorers.

    Potje Firebasket? Drilling cast iron?

Forgiven, you are telling me stuff I don't know, for which I am grateful. And even if I knew it, I would not mind - never harms to be told twice, and not every reader of the forum would know so it is not just me you are telling.

    Potje Firebasket? Drilling cast iron?

Given that it would take me quite a while to drill enough holes, I might try just making a fire in it to see if it cracks/smokes etc. But I think that I will wait until this dry weather is over. Really goo advice - thanks AES
