    Price estimates?

Maybe. Never done anything like that though. I am mainly a carver and have no 'big' tools like bandsaws. I guess laminating would require a 'former', lots of clamps and some exterior grade (20 years?) glue. I have some clamps, but cutting the former might be a problem. I have no idea about...

    Price estimates?

We wish to install a pergola/rose arch type thing, and would like a round top. We will have it in 3" pressure treated timber and I can do everything except make the curved top pieces. How much would they cost to get made up? I am thinking of two semicircular arcs id ~45" where the timber is...

Things to be aware of when moving house!

We just moved, and our purchasers were too tight to get a survey. We got a letter requesting answers to a long list of questions such as 'has the building ever sufferred from subsidence, is there any evidence of subsidence or likelyhodd that it will suffer from subsidence?'. It had similar...

Back in the days when a Big Mac was something you wore

Ahhhh, Izal - once described as 'like trying to mop up coffee with a record sleeve'. I remember one character from my yoof who was called izal because he was adamant that he 'wouldn't take ship off anyone'.

Help please: email to yahoo bounces....

OK I think that I understand. My webhost management software default is to bounce undeliverable field emails back to the user and puts '(recommended)' next to the option. If a spammer tries to get lucky inventing name@domain then it gets sent back. Except that it gets sent to the 'from'...

Help please: email to yahoo bounces....

Many thanks to Den for rooting out (sorry) the problem. I have a murky idea of what is happening - I need to do some more research, but: Some organisation monitors emails to its members (seems to be only yahoo addresses). If it detects some sort of irregularity in the emails it blacklists...

Help please: email to yahoo bounces....

But does that not the caus my mail to be marked spam by some my clients, because the from address does not match the originating server? (I could be completely wrong here - limits of competence and so forth). The earliest response I have is almost identical word-for-word with the one I posted...

Help please: email to yahoo bounces....

That would explain things. A pain, and not sure what I could do. Except change hosts. I am off to bed now, thanks for the help so far, and I am still open to suggestions. Phill

Help please: email to yahoo bounces....

Ah, acronym dyslexia. Must learn to think 'simple mail transfer protocol' and not 'gobbledy **** acronymn' when I see smtp. As for the choice of mail route to bt - I just used what Thunderbird guessed when I told it I was using bt. I can easy change to mail.btinternet.com if you...

Help please: email to yahoo bounces....

Did not work for me - maybe it requires windows OS? I even turned on cookies and enabled javascript, but all I got was empty boxes. I have emailed my host. I am not sure if my ignorance can cope with disentangling the various errors that I may get if I change my wifes outgoing smtp server...

Help please: email to yahoo bounces....

Changed to the smpt.mydomain and it made no difference. I looked at the mx tool, but did not understand what I was trying to do (yep, just left my competence zone;-) . Phill

Help please: email to yahoo bounces....

We are both attached to the same router, through the landline to BT. I am not quite sure what happens next. I have my own domain and web host, and I am sending via my web host. If I send using my BT internet as the outgoing server it works fine. (Only just thought of that - your question...

Help please: email to yahoo bounces....

Thanks for the offer, but my wife can email me on the yahoo address - so there is no incoming problem. I can mail out to my work (their own domain), to myselv via my own domain. It seems that it is an outgoing interaction between my mail system and yahoo.co.uk. I think I am about to exceeding...

Help please: email to yahoo bounces....

Odd, and I do not know where to start. Any email I send to yahoo bounces. All other domains seem fine (my own, and hotmail since those are all I can test). I can receive email fine. Any clues where to look to find if it is me? I am using Linux Mint 13, Mozilla Firefox. Any help gratefully...

    What expert do I need?

Some more interesting ideas there. Thankyou. For those who want slightly more detail, here is a back-of-an-envelope plan of the before and after. I guess the piers willl be slightly outside the footprint of the current fireplaces. There is no brick wall above (converted bungalow), so the wall...

    What expert do I need?

That is pretty much as expected, thanks. Steel beams are the usual solution - we are prepared for that. The end result is almost certain to be less of a visual challenge than the current arrangement (which may itself be in contravention of current regs). Also, there will be a woodburner in...

    What expert do I need?

Thanks for the prompt reply Mick Yep, that sounds about right. I have no competence in this area - so need the experts. Maybe for normal case, but the new fireplace will be centred where the old wall was, and may need something to support the upper floor where the wall was removed. Currently...

    What expert do I need?

To plan, and execute the removal and replacement of the downstairs part of a chimney breast. Our new property has a room that was formerly two. In one corner of each of the original rooms was a triangular chimney breast. Now that the wall has been (mostly) removed there is an odd triangular...
