Yes, will do - a phone call on on my list for tomorrow. I know some folks as would help remove the bikes....... but seriously, I was only after information and you have been helpful with that. Do not express remorse at not being able to do more. Oh, and on another note, I have finished...

Thanks for the recommend; I will try phoning him Monday morning. maybe a day out is due.... would you pre-order and trust his timber selection? Or would you arrange to select the timber and have it machined? I have never done this before...... I had a look, and several came up, but which to...

Damn good question........ I am not sure who around here would be classified as a 'good timber merchant'. We have a small TP and a small Jewsons. I dont think we have any others. Taunton is 45-60 minutes drive away, Bridgewater takes longer. Phill

We have decide to go with this idea. Thanks Rodd. Anybody have suggestions where I can get a suitable bit of oak in furthest west Somerset? I need a piece 165 x 2100 x 18mm. I have the technology to shorten it, but would be hard pressed to make it narrower (pin on a batten and route against...

Windows XP's demise - sits back; opens popcorn

If you dual boot your machine then you will be able to see your old pictures just fine. You will have to hunt a little, but they will be there. Alternately (and as a safety policy anyway) copy the stuff you really want to disk. Then you can see it on disk. One of the biggest difference for me...

Windows XP's demise - sits back; opens popcorn

Well done. ((Assuming you mean the first day you have worked with a linux box, rather than the first days work ever...... :D)) Some very dedicated people spent a lot of time reducing the barrier so we could get there easily and for free. The support website (should you ever need it) is...

Windows XP's demise - sits back; opens popcorn

It depends upon which Linux. I use Mint (Mate 13). As standard it has a 'start' menu button at the bottom left, 'running app' buttons in the task bar, and a desktop that you can drop icons onto. Windows have menus, maximise/minimise/close buttons. You get a free browser and mail client along...

Windows XP's demise - sits back; opens popcorn

Hmmmm, if it is the parting with money that is the stumbling block then you could likely run a Linux on the same box instead of / as well as xp. Zero cost (well one dvd and a bit of download time). If you want to go this route someone here will burn the install dvd for you. That is the...

Windows XP's demise - sits back; opens popcorn

I use Linux (Mint 13), but find it far more convenient to install XP on a virtual machine (eg virtual box) than to dual boot. Save the machine state early on, and if it ever gets bent just restore from saved file. You can have the Linux windows and the XP windows co-existing on your desktop...

    Double glazing trim

I will pm some pics tomorrow, and some measurements, because it is rendered....... Toying with the idea of a sloped glass roof to match the tile line (currently a rather ugly flat roof that does not look right).

    Double glazing trim

If you want to quote for the job, or just ballpark figures so we could plan ahead we would certainly be interested. Even a sanity check :) Its a long way from your part of the world to mine though......

    Double glazing trim

Thanks to all. I got the stuff done today - quite a mess**, but hopefully watertight. The way the spacings were I had to put the trim at right angles to the face of the frame - and would have done that at the bottom anyway to bridge across the mortar line to the sloping tiles. The render was...

    Double glazing trim

 Luckily we are so far west in Somerset we are almost in Devon. And about 40m above sea level on the side of a south facing hill. Our damp comes from the sky, not the ground or the sea. For which we are most thankful. The poor people on the levels have far more problems than do we - I...

    Double glazing trim

Yes, it just occurred to me while eating lunch. I can be dense at times. The 'instant bond' feature may make the job a little nerve wracking, but life is a learning experience. Understood, but not a problem. We are doing up the house and had long-term plans to remove the bay windows and...

    Double glazing trim

Thanks, but...... SLP? Mastic? I am not familiar with these terms to understand you answer fully. Are you saying to use sealant to stick the beads? Is 'sticks like shot' the same as 'mastic'. Please excuse my ignorance. Phill

    Double glazing trim

Thanks for the quick response. My nearest Eurocell is in Bridgewater and will be closed before I get through the floods. Your suggestion of double sided tape indicates that the weatherproof-ness of the adhesive for the plastic is not critical. Finishing with silicone obviously is. I may be...

    Double glazing trim

I know that we have got off very lightly compared to some, but the recent inclement weather has highlighted defects in the glazing of our bay window. The frames were fitted with a gap all round that was filled with foam. Fair enough, but the foam was sealed in with mortar of some kind, and...

    Silencer for air pump

I have no direct experience, but can you attach a bit of tube to the extra output? If so try leading this tube into a decorative pile of rocks (fist sized?). I bet that would attenuate the noise without too much risk of blockage. Or point the tube at the wind chimes. :D
