    Gas regs and responsibility

Update: I chatted with the named installer. He stoutly maintains that, although the chap was working for him at the time, and he knew about the installation job, it was not an official job for the company. Allowing the installer to put the company name on documentation was only a...

    Gas regs and responsibility

I am not really experienced enough to guess why this short-cut was taken. My guess is 'easier and cheaper' = 'get home quicker and make more profit'. If there is interest I will post a photo tomorrow of the outside so folks can try to guess..... I am going to have a chat with the owner of the...

    Gas regs and responsibility

We bought the house about a year ago. It had been empty a while as the elderly couple had died and their children were initially unrealistic about its value. During the conveyancing we did check that the boiler had been installed correctly (the document described above was our 'proof') and it...

    Gas regs and responsibility

Thanks both for quick replies. [Edit out bitter rant]. So it seems that I have to rely on the integrity of the original installer, just as I would have if there were no schemes. Getting the documents and checking them would seem a pointless activity for my solicitor to have undertaken, too...

    Gas regs and responsibility

Hi all, I wonder if any here can help to clarify my situation. We bought a house with a gas boiler that has a 'benchmark' Installation, Commissioning and Service Record Log book'. The boiler was installed in June 2006. We asked a local man to service the boiler, and as it turns out his name...

    Euro locks

Me too. I have a set of keyed-alike cylinders. When I move in I replace as many original locks as I can, and keep them for when I move out....... Hopefully we are settled for a long time now, though. Phill

    Suggestions for web browsers please

What operating system? I am running Linux Mint and find the default (Firefox) works well (2 years without a hitch). I do not keep a cache or a history and I regularly bin all my cookies. My better half is less compulsive-tidy, but seems happy (i.e. quiet). Firefox works reasonably well on...

    Kies Help

I have a Samsung android device -great hardware, great software. Unfortunately Samsung have made communicating with other devices via the USB port really difficult. Apparently they have their own communications protocol so you need Samsung software and drivers on the PC. Unfortunately this...

    Hi...

Hi from me too. This is a friendly and helpful forum. I cannot be specifically helpful - I am more of a carver than a joiner. Why not choose a small project and then ask for specific advice? Starting with hand tools may be an Important part of the learning process. There are always tasks that...

Stay well back, not for the nervous.

I like the cyliinder that takes off like a rocket at about 2:50. Wonder where that landed.......

    Springer spaniel..

A lovely sketch - I wish I had a tenth of your skill. The face is so expressive, and the eyes have so much life that I had a real sense of a puppy presence. Might I make an observation? It took me a moment to realise that the body was fading out to the left. I thought the head was straight...

    Broccoli.

Is that when it gets lumpy? I am a fan of vegetables - grow them & eat them. Many are nicer raw than boiled, especially if the boiling is done for too long. When preparing broccoli try the soft crispy light centre raw from the large stalks. Nice texture and taste, shame there is only...

Thanks for the vote of confidence. New website is up and running, though the DNS changes may need to propagate.

    Results in the lounge

My apologies - I am moving my domain hosting to a new server - and the very clever people at the hosting company seemed to have dropped a stitch somewhere....... Normal service will be resumed shortly.

    Results in the lounge

Many people here have helped me with queries as I did up the lounge. I thought you might like to see the result: Before pictures captured from agents literature: After pictures (sorry about the darkness of the one pointing to the window) Thanks to all who helped. Phill

    Help finding hinges, please

Thanks to Benchwayze. I have had time to look at the hinges and they are a perfect match for the originals - apart from the three holes are staggered in the opposite pattern. The company were friendly and efficient, though the small order value made their p&p look expensive.

    Help finding hinges, please

Seems like a good match - two pairs on order (P&P a bit expensive, but none stocked anywhere local). Even the thickness seems a perfect match. Thanks. Phill

    Help finding hinges, please

I need some hinges, they look like this: They are rather chunky but brittle (cast?) iron. The back story: We live in a 1900's semi. One of the windows modified by a former owner, who removed the two hinged openers and replaced them with simple glass panes. (Who knows why? <shrug>). Our...

Don't buy cheap tools - Rant

Mine is over ten years old now...... I do not use it all the time (hobbyist rather than professional) but it gets abused rather than used. My only complaint is that the chuck (?) seems to be leaking some black gunk and I have no idea how to service it. Oh and the amusing switches: one for...
