    Optical Illusion

Amazing, once you see it. Hard to believe that you could not before..... perception is just weird.

    Optical Illusion

I know, it is difficult. I am trying to let people have fun testing whether they can see anything odd. I would not have done had it not been pointed out. We have looked at this view from our window for three years without seeing it. Bob saw it straight away, and then spent a while trying to...

    Optical Illusion

I totally understand - I thought the person who described it was going a bit doolally-tap. I can now see it easily, but I will leave the explanation a bit so that others can play. I *will* explain it when folks get bored with looking, but I am not sure how long to leave it. Maybe this evening?

    Optical Illusion

A guest recently pointed out this optical illusion.... We had not seen it before and initially struggled to see it until a sketch was made. Can you see it?

    Great "wrong" words

    I could be wrong.

    Great "wrong" words

You have reminded me of something I said when younger that caused me much ridicule. I still think it is logical: I heard 'RSJ' as 'Irish J' - because it is 'H' shape in cross section (and our builder was Jim Kilpatrick ;-).

I like 'mandraulically'. Doing it by hand.

TRigger switch for reage evolution mitre saw

I thought that that might have happened. But I will learn by experience. And to be fair, the support guy was very patient and did explain everything clearly while I removed and inspected brushes. Did I pay fifteen quid for a lesson in power tool maintenance? Ah well, I have had more...

TRigger switch for reage evolution mitre saw

I did, possibly even while you were replying. But thanks, it could have been the prod I needed. I have to say that their support line was very good - talked me through checking the brushes - very worn. Talked me through paying for them as well (20gbp!). I had not even realised that brushes...

TRigger switch for reage evolution mitre saw

My rage evolution mitre saw stopped working today. No drama, no smoke, worked for one cut. Did not work for next. One possible diagnosis is the trigger switch failing. It is a Hont HT 1004-2118 or Hont 1004 2112. Any idea where I might source a replacement? Any ideas gratefully received...

How does a private vehicle sale work?

Two lessons there I reckon. One general, one specific to the 'friend'. I was told that if a friend asks for a loan of twenty quid, always agree the first time at least. Friendship is priceless, and twenty quid is not much to learn that a friend isnt. £200 is a bit steep though.

How does a private vehicle sale work?

Thanks, That is an interesting idea. Should the dealer be local to me or local to the vehicle, I wonder?

How does a private vehicle sale work?

Hmmmm, thanks, but I was not clear - I will be the purchaser. Carrying quantities of cash to someone else's house seems risky. How do I ensure that the transaction goes ahead once a bank transfer has put my money irrevocably in someone else's account?

How does a private vehicle sale work?

I mean, several thousand pounds worth of sale. It seems that cash or direct transfer are generally preferred. Although most people are honest and law abiding, I can see potential problems with either approach. Has anyone here got any advice? I would appreciate any thoughts or experiences...

    Climate Change

Ah the 'tragedy of the commons'. We all need to learn to live with less. Less meat. Less energy. Less waste. Sure the chinese are using their cheaper energy and state subsidies to dump steel on our market. That is plain wrong. But the chinese are also investing a far higher proportion of...

    Climate Change

Climate change is as close to fact as meteorology can get. The evidence that humans are causing it is almost as solid. If we believe them and we are wrong then we are a little inconvenienced maybe do not have all the holidays and cars we want. If we disbelieve them and we are wrong we...
