    Toilet syphon

Thanks - if (a big if) I am lucky it might already have one of those..... what are the signs of a 'dismantle from above' one?

    Toilet syphon

Hi all, my plumbing skills are legendary. So before I make yet another mess, perhaps someone could help me. Our downstairs toilet syphon diaphragm seems to be going. I have already replaced the one upstairs, so I know the basic theory. The downstairs loo has a different design where I cannot...

    Low salt bread recipes

I have begun leaving the salt out of the bread I make. I have made about half-a-dozen loaves without salt. No problems at all. I do not use a bread maker and I adjust times to match the needs of the dough, rather than following a set routine, so I cannot say exactly what to change in order to...

    Most used abrasive

I sand by hand and use fine grades to finish - my current timber comes up with a glass-like finish if I patiently work my way up through the grades. I got a couple of packs of these and am very pleased with them. I am not sure how well they would last in a a powered device though. I do use...

    Bits

Great idea Dickm. I had forgotten about them. Sent them an email to find out my nearest donation point.

    Bits

Thank you, that is a very kind thought and part of me wants to accept if only to for the experience. Electricity-free fettling has a definite appeal. Realistically, however, I do not drill many holes larger than about 12mm and I am probably too lazy/inept to keep the bits properly sharpened...

    Adjustable Centre Bit.

    Thanks, a good read.

    Bits

Rather than continue to pollute another thread I thought I start a new one to ask if these bits are likely to be of interest to anyone, or whether they are classed as 'skipfill'. I cannot see me buying a brace to use them, or having the patience to sharpen them.

    Adjustable Centre Bit.

Thanks. I was given this and a collection of drill/auger bits but no brace, by a friend clearing a workshop. No drilling machine of mine would accept the tapered shank so I sort of forgot about them until this thread. (There were a lot of chisels, gouges and very useful stuff so do not think...

    Adjustable Centre Bit.

Is this related? Probably newer though.... What is with the odd tapered-square fitting?

    Gotta love village life...

Well done Naz. Anything that raises interest in the natural world has got to be good.......

    Which wood rasp

That little rasp turned out to be more useful than I expected. I am starting the carving now - and learning to sharpen my flexi-cut tools. Anyway here is the head lined-out a bit. I found that I had to make the lines between the scales deeper and wider than realistic in order to make them...

    Which wood rasp

It arrived today - useful little rasp. For major work I would prefer a longer stroke, but this seems to work well on a piece of scrap. Think two grades of half round in one tool. I may get a spare from the cheap outlets mentioned above. For some reason - possibly because I am self taught - I...

    A monster.

Wow. That is a monster for a first early. Now for main crop potatoes: https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/should-potatoes-grow-this-large-t100461.html

I bought a hose this year....

Ahhh a refugee..... If I manage some decent chutney (and with my cooking that is a big if), I will try to get some to you.

I bought a hose this year....

Taunton? But your profile says Cyprus......

I bought a hose this year....

Thank you. It does look a lot better than last year - I am pleased (pending water bill). Since these are autumn sown they may not keep as well as I would like. Many may wind up in chutney.

I bought a hose this year....

It made a difference - but I will wait for the water bill before calling it a success. These were organic autumn sown sets (radar). The amount you see represents about three quarters of a bag - which cost £5.58. Some (<10%) were harvested early as they bolted, and some of the original bag...

    Letter Carving

Nice work, thanks for posting. This is the sort of thing that I am likely to attempt. I am looking forward to picking up some useful hints on this thread.

    Which wood rasp

Good find - At that price it has got to be worth a punt...... though it might need a cloth wrapped round to protect my puddies. A half-round ******* was on my list anyway.
