    Incredible work!

Amazed. The skill to start with raw materials and build a complex and attractive object is enviable, and probably arises from hard work experience and flair. Thanks for posting.

What do you call someone who....

My wife and I came up with both designations 'architect' and 'interior designer', but were a little unsure which and whether there was another profession. MIL is long departed this world... and would not have been much use for this task anyway ;-) I have never talked to an 'interior designer'...

What do you call someone who....

... looks at your house and suggests what alterations to make. A bit like Kirsty Allsopp. I am sure that our house probably has potential for improvement I tried making a 3d model and planning moving the stairs, but I may be missing other possibilities.

    Talktalk

TLDR: Simple answer is "if you don't know you need one then you probably don't". Long winded explanation, probably inaccurate in some details and simplified to match my understanding. Anyone who cares to correct me please do: A static IP address is a sequence of numbers that identifies your...

Thanks for the invite and Hello all..

Welcome - this is a friendly and helpful place. You will love it.

    Talktalk

Contact the ISP (internet service provider) that you wish to go with. Arrange to start the contract with them on the day your TT ends. Your new ISP will be happy to do the rest, and TT will have no say in the matter. Instead of talkig at TT (who are motivated to make things difficult) you...

    Recommended mattresses?

These ones work - just got one, seems comfy......

    Security cameras

I have a reolink camera with 3g connectivity and a solar panel - on our garage with no power and out of range of our WiFi. Solar panel seems able to keep the camera running - though it has had quite a few long sunny days since I installed it in the spring. I am reasonably confident that it...

How about these for well priced: Apple Mac Pro Wheels Kit Makes £30 look positively cheap......

    Any arborists?

I am nowhere near an expert, but if it is that bad, and with little remedy what would be wrong with taking a chainsaw down the join to widen it - hoping it heals and and that the healed scar drains better? If the other courses of action are ultimately destructive, and the tree is likely doomed...

    email address and hosting

IONOS user here. Rolling monthly contract, reasonable rates (I think, have not looked for a while.... 12gbp pm including a couple of domains addresses, web and email hosting, IP address - seems a little more than others are getting charged here?). Their support is good, not quite XKCD 806...

    Digital camera recomendations

Thanks all. After much deliberation, and consultation with the boss, I bought her a PANASONIC LUMIX DC-TZ90EB-K. Looks good, but we are still in the 'suspicious of anything new' phase. Expect it will be day four or five before the first picture is taken.....

    What metal pipe?

Found an off-cut of downpipe under the decking today - tried it in one of the post holes - perfect fit. Makes that route look more attractive. Downpipe, say 4 ft long..... how much sand/cement is that in kg do you reckon. Is there a volume to (dry) weight conversion factor...

    What metal pipe?

A tight turn onto a narrow lane when leaving the drive makes a gate or out-folding posts a little problematic. If I can find a suitable placement then I am favouring the posts at the moment. How robust are the posts/fixings? Could I drive over them without damaging them? Although the widest...

    What metal pipe?

Bargain, will be there in 15 mins...... no seriously a kind offer but the delivery costs might outweigh the price.

    What metal pipe?

I am rethinking my reluctance to use folding posts. Although the gap is seven meter (goes right to edge where I own a fence post) the usable entrance space is probably less (under 6m) . With the swing-in needed I might just get away with one or at most two of these devices. I may need to...

    What metal pipe?

Thanks for all the suggestions so far - you are being as creative and helpful as I had hoped. Scaffold bar might do, though I do not really want loads of it. I only have a small vehicle currently so moving big stuff around would be a pain. Timber is looking like a good idea, or downpipe...

    What metal pipe?

Actually timber is not a bad idea..... It does not have to look like metal, it just has to add a step to the parking on my drive. If a driver has to get out and remove a barrier, especially one with a 'private no parking' notice on it, then they will not be able to claim 'I didn't realise'...
