    Garden room project

I built something similar 16 years ago, though not quite as impressive size wise. I used 3x2 framing and Shiplap with glass breathable batts for insulation. I laid the whole thing on a concrete pad with damp proof membrane. The frame sits 5mm neyond the outer edge of the concrete pad. The bottom...

How would you wall mount this?

I made and then installed these over-bed open shelves using just 3 French Cleats by routing slots in the back and then sinking metal keyhole plates. I also slotted the back of the frames to conceal low voltage twin-core wiring and a toggle pull switch for the down-lighters. The toggle switch...

Long shavings full width ... sorry I thought that was obviously only on edge planing. 🙃 Angle...... What I said ✔️

    Freehand sharpening training

Interesting discussion...... I suspect that you have just explained why I dislike grinding and honing so much....... I have always followed the text book and never found my plane satisfying to use, waisting a lot of time and filling my Cuss Box a few times. Always failing to get those long full...

    Outdoor caulk/putty/silicone

Beat me to it. Every Time I buy any I think it's expensive but every time I use it I know it's worth every penny.

    Screwing at an Angle,,,,

I see so many peeps angle screwing frames without a pilot hole into the joined piece (the screw tip receiving piece) and it is almost a given that the last tightening will pull the frames out of alignment. By drilling the pilot hole into the screw tip receiving piece first the screw becomes its...

Curated quality minimalist tool list for a beginner woodworker

I'm now 71 and have just decided to transfer to hand tools where possible. I have been trying to decide which power tools to part with and which hand tools to keep or replace with better. I would never profess to be a skilled woodworker but more of a 'Chippy' (UK term for a wood botherer) with...

Tool for awkward nut (not me)

I searched the forums for 3D prints, saw a question, didn't read the date and responded with what I hoped with useful advice. I was rather surprised at your abrupt put down, hence my bridge comment.

    Got my first 3D printer

It's a bit like learning to ride a bike.... The more you do it, the easier it gets. I didn't start until I was 70 and really enjoyed the challenge. I now design stuff I need in Tinkercad and print using Astroprint Android Apps also using Chromebook online. I load the G-Code files, adjust...

Tool for awkward nut (not me)

Maybe close the thread after you've had enough responses. I'm sure this system allows that. I 've thrown myself off a bridge already.... Luckily I was saved by my thick skull🤕

Tool for awkward nut (not me)

If you can't find a tool I'd measure the adjustment needed, remove the bracket, slacken the exposed nut near the eye and adjust by swizzling the bracket, lock it tight again and reassemble to the wooden post. Oh and this time lubricate regularly!

Safe disposal of an unusual nail gun

I seem to remember Dad taking the gun's unused cartridges to the local police station who were happy to dispose of. He dismantled the gun and took the parts to the scrap yard on two different occasions. He was concerned that they could fairly easily be modified as a weapon by bypassing the...

Safe disposal of an unusual nail gun

If it's in an orange box it's probably a SPITZ. The cartridges came in different colours for different explosive force. It had two chrome safety buttons which had to both be squeezed after the spring loaded shroud was fully pressed onto the item being fixed before it would fire. I can confirm...

Can anyone id this tool for brace and bit?

Yep but yours has a metalworker's lathe centre drill installed. You've got two different things there.
