    Nail punch Q

Gosh - I never knew nail punches had a dimple in the end. My dad had quite a lot of flat head punches so I used those when they were handed down. He was an engineer however, so his punches were used in metalwork with both straight sides and angled sides. I do have a lovely sprung centre punch to...

Please assist with the identuty and age of the following tools:-

I think some of those tools look like those used by thatchers on roofs to lay down the straw. And some also look tools which a cooper (barrel-maker) would have. When I was a young lad I did work in a misheard where the cooper made up and repaired the barrels for the herring, so some of these...

Bosch Belt Sander - PBS 75 - toothed belt wheel supplier??

Thanks for that. Yes I did look at their website, but it is clear that I can't order the large sprocket as the part number has been withdrawn from it. And therefore there isn't a live link for me to order. I'll try and do as ChaiLatte suggests

Bosch Belt Sander - PBS 75 - toothed belt wheel supplier??

Thanks - sorry I did give you the wrong part number. It's not 31 but I think it is 32. And it is that larger sprocket which appears to be unobtainable now. I had a reply earlier today from RAI tools and they said it is now discontinued by Bosch! I will try as you suggest

Bosch Belt Sander - PBS 75 - toothed belt wheel supplier??

My trusty Bosch belt sander has developed a fault with its toothed belt wheel. It's the larger of the two sprockets, and it looks like the internal flats have worn away and it keeps slipping. I have to stop every so often to tighten up the securing nut for the sprocket. I have tried to find a...

    Grab Handles in Shower

Thanks - it's really great to have first hand experience of the suction type handles. I agree with you about making sure that I use a screwed in handle and not rely on a suction type especially as she is 96!

    Grab Handles in Shower

Thanks everyone for your replies. I think the spring toggles are going to be the best way. But to check where she would like the grab handles to be I am going to get some suction ones as a try out, and then fit the permanent ones. I'm not worried about the extra cost

    Grab Handles in Shower

Hi, my 96 year old MiL has just decide that she needs grab rails in her shower. The shower was refitted with those formica type panels (about 9/10mm thick) about 3 years ago. She now wants grab handles fitted. I am loath to drill through the panels as any handles in my mind will need to be...

Triton Router - TR0001 - Can you over tighten the collet??

I thought this might be of interest. I got in touch with Triton about my wee problem. The reply I got referred to their plug supplied with the machine. "Has your unit got a dual plug (EU plug in a UK shell)? If so could you please undo the shell and just check that the EU plug is fully clipped...

Triton Router - TR0001 - Can you over tighten the collet??

Thanks @TRITON - yes I did remove the plug several times. But I never tried the cable wobble bit though. I think like you I am now only giving it a slight tighten and when I used it this afternoon it seemed OK. So fingers crossed

Triton Router - TR0001 - Can you over tighten the collet??

@Simon89 - I agree!! Now that I have the router working, what I did was finger tight first and then use the supplied spinner to tighten it by up to 1/2 turn only. If I do it any tighter, then it refuses to start even though the switch is lit. It's most peculiar.

Triton Router - TR0001 - Can you over tighten the collet??

Thanks @Spectric @Yojevol Yes I have been checking the collet spins freely. So that was all ok. And yes the spindle lock was released OK when I would the router down using the raiser handle. I suppose from the instructions when it says "turn the spanner anti-clockwise or clockwise" for some...

Triton Router - TR0001 - Can you over tighten the collet??

I have been very pleased so far with the Triton which I bought a few weeks ago. I used it quite happily to round off wood for a project I was doing with no problems whatsoever. And the height adjuster is brilliant for fine-tuning the height. But today when I came to use it for another project...

I see wood import volumes are down but prices up

There was a press release this week that UK imports by volume of wood and panels were down by 20% in 2022 (but the value was up by 7%!), although hardwoods were up by 7% - see Timber imports down 20% in 2022

    Is this African Blackwood?

Yes - probably true. I tend to be slightly optimistic and try to process shaky wood and cover up its faults, so long as I'm not aiming to make something too structural!

    Is this African Blackwood?

That is a crazy lump of wood to throw out. I would have defo collected that and put in my wood shed for a later project! Hope you do get the correct ID on that

    Router trouble (DeWalt 625 / Trend T11 / CMT 1850)

Well, I went ahead and bought the Triton. It really is a brilliant router for the table. I had to do some fettling of the table plate to attach it. My table was an old Trend table with a square insert plate, so had to drill some new countersunk holes. I bought some 1/4inch UNC screws from...
