Anyone know what this is for?

It might be something which a tinsmith might use for hammering?

Did you just see that …

To be honest I wouldn't want to be inside one of Musk's rockets! And being grabbed by his tentacles is enough to put me off him, even if I wasn't already!

eBay scrapping selling fees for private sellers

As a longish term seller on eBay, I have been quite pleased with it. Yes when I started i wondered how much it would take from me in fees, and I did a wee bit irked at first. But then realised that I was able to sell off stuff which otherwise I would have dumped in some way. Sucha as old car...

    New Diesel & Petrol Ban

This is today's electricity generation ! Wind and solar alongside nuclear and gas have strongly helped us to kick the coal habit! https://grid.iamkate.com/ - this website is very informative and I don't understand what such data isn't made available on a daily basis just like when we look out...

    Slipping F-clamps

Excellent idea. I have a couple of very similar looking clamps and they have always slipped. I tend to use these clamps as a last resort when I need clamping to be done!

Pricing a saw that's not being sold anymore

I found one for sale at €3,000 - https://tendotools.com/en/product/table-saws-harvey-hw110se-30-230v-30%E2%80%B3-760mm/ - so you should be able to list it for a good price. Clearly anyone who wants it will need to provide collection!

New road tax charging rules wont just affect EV OR just new vehicles, its retrospectively changes your tax band

Probably. But the aggregate number of heavier cars must have a toll on our roads. Is the current crop of potholes down to cars or down to 14 years of Tory ideological austerity! Interesting question!

    No Fault Evictions

Agreed John, The need by some of these people to accumulate money for money's sake and then foist their morals on everyone is in my view immoral. I don;'t see them investing in society but instead taking from us.

Coping saw blade - which tip?

The title for this should read TPI - not tip. Another example of dreaded autocorrection!

New road tax charging rules wont just affect EV OR just new vehicles, its retrospectively changes your tax band

To be honest, when EV's were first on the road, it was quite evident to me that there would need to be an incentive to people to buy an EV and for the EV market to expand so that the infrastructure would follow. That incentive was the ZERO rate. Now that the market is established it is self...

Your favourite thing you have made from reclaimed timber 🤔 📸

Those are very nice shapes. I did have a scroll saw a few years ago, but could never get on with it. I sold it and sometimes I think I should get another one, but this time spend a bit more on it so that I feel comfortable with it.

    Electric vehicles

This is a useful website which I look at from time to time. It shows the current power generation, and as JohnBrown says, it shows that Nuclear is a constant busload, and gas is the fallback for when solar is generating (at night of course and on cloudy bad days!) and also when wind isn't (on...

Coping saw blade - which tip?

Hi, I don't usually do dovetails, but have realised I should. I have been putting together a small shelf unit for a tea set (about which I will post later!), and thought I would use dovetails! I do have a coping saw, but the blade seems to coarse to cut, so I was wondering what TPI's are best to...

That is a really nice clean design. Given the size of the beams you used, it will take some weight I would think!

And another item for a particular space - a drinks rack! Again she a similar shelf unit in a shop but it wasn't quite long enough, so I said I could make that! Again, it's made out of reclaimed door frames and painted. I quite like working out the dimensions and the look of the item. It's always...

Your favourite thing you have made from reclaimed timber 🤔 📸

I use recycled wood a lot for my domestic projects. This is one of them. My partner wanted a collapsible table she had seen in a shop. As usual I said I could make one of those! And to the exact dimensions for the space we needed. It's basically two trestles with a removable top, held in place...

    Tool identification

Hadn't heard of Zeus before! I don't any die and tap work, although I have some very old tap and die from my dad from when he was a toolmaker. Some of them still has his name engraved on the bits so that they wouldn't get stolen! Anyway, I thought I would look this up and came across this great...
