Tell if a bandsaw blade is sharp enough

On mine when the blade started drifting it was because the teeth on one side had been damaged by some numpty (me) clipping a hidden screw, in my case the drift was quite dramatic. You may have something similar with the teeth on one side of the set being blunter than the teeth on the other...

Air Nailers Or Electric nail guns?

Not got a huge amount of experience but have used both and only low end tools as well but did find the Air nailers performed better, in both speed of use and in setting the nails and they are lighter as well. I only have electric ones now but do miss my air guns. Yes you need a compressor but...

    Vaccum pump

I suppose the only way to find out is buy a bigger pump and see. Good job they are a lot cheaper than they used to be, I used to do refrigeration work in the 90's and the vac pump I used was over £300 then, now they can be found well under £100. Your thinking may well be valid. Let us know...

    Vaccum pump

If you can't get a good suction with a 3cfm pump because of air gaps in the grain I would suspect you will get the same issue regardless of how much suck you apply, to a vacuum pump a leak is a leak, the bigger CFM pump will just show the leak quicker.

    Small Precision Screwdrivers

Japanese cross head is slightly different to the Phillips used in Europe so best to get specific drivers if working on Japanese kit. Pozidrive is different again. Never mix and match drivers with screw types unless you like drilling out damaged screws, easy to say not so easy to follow, even...

    Small Precision Screwdrivers

Another vote for Wera but the iFixit set is well worth a look and they come with a lifetime warranty I have both but nearly always grab the iFixit set, unless I needling reach then it's the Wera set to the rescue.

The OP didn't mention turning tools in his OP, so thought he was talking normal chisels when I answered ;)

    Sharpening chisels - which grit

If you are just sharpening a dull blade then they make a diamond coated. Belt that does a good job for general carpentry If you edges have been damaged and metal needs removing then some of the low grit belts may be needed, just to remove the damage before finishing the edge with the diamond...

Which woodworking YouTube channels do you watch?

Most of mine are on your ls on your list, Rex is ok if a little annoying, Cosmans channel is more about selling his tools than real woodwork. The English Woodworker is worth a look. Many of the mainly American Chanel are more about video production than actual carpentry, alway dubious when...

Looking for simple design software or software designed for the simple :)

Hi all. I am looking for some simple 2D design software that is not too bloated or difficult for a simple minded soul like me to use for simple designs for things like cabinets and boxes etc. I did try SketchUp but just couldn't get to grips with it, I told you I was simple ;) Currently just...

Hi all As subject really, anyone tried oe of the Faithfull No.7 planes. At under £60 are they a good plane or not worth bothering with. Out if not all the usual makes are out of my budget range, even old rusty ones on eBay are above what I would want yo spend on an occasional use tool. Are...

    Stain/Dye

Personally I have found the spirit based dye penetrates much deeper than the water based equivalent which seems to just sit on the surface like paint. Spirit is the term used by Rustin's on their website no mention of it being oil based.

    Stain/Dye

I suggest you try a Spirit based dye as they tend to sink deeper into the wood whereas water based dyes tend to sit on the surface. Don't know if it's available in Canada but I get good results with Rustin's spirit Dye.
