    Britain's Best Woodworker

One thing I forgot to put in previous comment. Whilst there is certainly an overt display of "tick the boxes" in terms of diversity, this is maybe not a bad thing as I believe things have really changed. There is no doubt that historically woodwork has been much more male dominated - certainly...

    Britain's Best Woodworker

I've watched all three episodes now with my (non wood-working) partner and share many of the views expressed here. It does seem to be improving a little and some of the designs are excellent. The two main gripes remain however: 1) Those two judges really take the joy from the programme. 2)...

As title states. Looking for either of the above. Many thanks.

    EKD RP1 router plane

My students tend to really like using our router planes. I have 4 - three old Stanley/Records and one flashy new Lie Nielsen. I am always on the lookout for more of the newer (LN or Veritas) variety second hand as I find that they are so much less likely to stick and despite the crazy new price...

Early onset Parkinson's disease and woodworking

Just a quick note to thank those who gave ideas here. The various tips really helped; she was also very happy to hear that others with her condition were fine working with sharp tools Her work may be a little slower than others in the class but she is actually producing really accurate work...

Early onset Parkinson's disease and woodworking

Hi All. I have a student in my beginner woodworking classes who has early onset Parkinson's disease. She is around 50 years old and has been diagnosed for 5 years. The condition is having an impact on both cognitive and physical abilities - the most obvious being shakiness. The biggest...

Festool Domino repair - how much!!

A week ago our Festool Domino suddenly stopped working. Quite old (well out of warranty) and quite well used. It felt like the issue was electrical and a quick search of this site and others suggested that the power cable was a weak point. We borrowed another power cable and plugged it in...

    What's your Router Plane Style

We use two old Stanley 71s with students. Most have never come across such a tool before but within a few minutes of using one, almost all love the control it gives them. (All beginners). We have seen a huge growth in interest of hand tool woodworking over the past year and I suspect that there...

    1/2 router recommendation

My Katsu trim router was crazily cheap, is used several times a week and is going strong after 3 years. Not a classic by any means but everyone who has come to our workshop who owns one themselves loves theirs too. Cheers. Nick.

    Clifton 4 1/2 Smoother

One advantage of lockdown and the national handplane shortage is that it has saved me a lot of cash. I have twice made the decision to buy lie Nielsen 4 1/2 and twice been thwarted. Cheers. Nick.

Table saw v Track saw A bit of advice please

+1 for the stumpy nubs discussion of table saw usefulness. Despite the ridiculous name I like the cut of his jib and think he generally talks a lot of sense.
