    Just use the blade guard!

I've just seen a Youtube video of someone using a bandsaw without the guard!

    Sharpening, Steel or both.

Is there any differences in steels and bevel angles for tools that are pushed (plane irons and chisels pushed by hand) and tools that are struck with a mallet (chisels for mortising)? I meant to ask this upthread but I didn't phrase the question clearly.

List of notable woodworkers who use only hand tools

I don't think any of the people mentioned are "hand tools only" woodworkers, and if there are one or two who are, so what? They are in fact people who have videos or books showing or teaching hand tool techniques and hand tool use. Or offer courses, online or in person. Which is all perfectly...

    Apron or Dustcoat?

Wilko apron, at college and work, althought at one workplace they didn't but I still wore mine. I wear clean casual clothes underneath and as mentioned, for wiping glue off my hands when I don't have something else on hand, especially when you have to work quickly with hide glue. It's also a...

    First import from the EU

But people have always had to pay VAT to the courier /postman for orders over £135, before it was to sellers outside the EU, now it's sellers outside the UK. From what I've read, the reason why some non-UK sellers are not selling to the UK is because they have to register, collect and pay the...

    First import from the EU

It has been abolished in the EU as well, starting in July 2021, delayed from Jan 2021.

    Just use the blade guard!

The only detail in the article relating to the cause of the injury is: "Malcolm...described how he was suddenly distracted while operating a circular saw in his workshop", from that, you can't tell whether there was negligence or not.

    Wet grinder rollers

There are versions where the two sets of wheels are linked so it operates with only one handle or foot plate (for benches). Youtube has videos of various setups.

    Ful-Use vice?

It says "patents pending" on the front, maybe details are online somewhere.

    Wet grinder rollers

This retractable mechanism with wheels is sized for a workbench but a small version could work for the grinder:

    Sharpening, Steel or both.

Is there any difference when sharpening chisels for hand pushed paring and plane irons? And also how would Veritas 01 and PMV11 block plane irons compare for planing ebony? Would PMV11 stay sharp longer? It's not for surface finishing, it's going to be sanded, the iron only needs to be sharp...

    First import from the EU

A few years ago, the EU changed the law on VAT on purchases of under £135/150 euro per consignment from outside the EU. The new rule is the non-EU retailer charges VAT then sends it to the buyer's goverment. The buyer doesn't pay VAT on import. The rule comes into effect on 1 July 2021, delayed...

    Replacement iron for Stanley No.8

My 1920 Stanley no 6 with a replacement Stanley iron (iron came with the plane when I bought it a few years ago and is already quite well used, more than 20mm used up): iron thickness, 2.3mm mouth width in front of iron, with iron set for a very fine cut, 0.7mm

    Just use the blade guard!

It's interesting that the HSE good practice/safe working practices seem to be recommendations and are not compulsory. https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/circular-saw.pdf https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/wis16.pdf "This information sheet contains notes on good practice which are not compulsory but which...

    Replacement iron for Stanley No.8

I meant that Ray Iles makes thin and thick irons, at least for one retailer. I would phone and ask. Maybe you would have to wait for the next batch. I have phoned them before to check availability, possibly speaking to Mr Iles himself, and the irons I ordered online arrived in 2 days.

    Bench vice upgrade

I think you've earned it carrying (17kg?) and walking with it for half an hour!

    Replacement iron for Stanley No.8

https://www.workshopheaven.com/hand-tools/hand-planes/plane-irons-and-accessories/ray-iles-plane-irons.html lists a thin and thick version for the 50mm iron. But Ray Iles hasn't got info on thickness...

    Clifton block plane price

Note a Clifton no 4 is "only" £300. It seems other plane makers price their blocks quite bit cheaper than their bench planes but Clifton doesn't. "what people will pay", seems unlikely, why would a block plane be their one and only super premium plane? "production costs" maybe. "low numbers...

    Just use the blade guard!

The short fence is in : https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/circular-saw.pdf "To prevent kickback, the front of the fence must beno further than the base of the gullet at table level" https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/wis16.pdf "A rip fence or a cross-cut fence should be used to give adequate workpiece...

    Just use the blade guard!

Isn't the problem is placing your hands so close to the blade? Even with a guard, you should keep your hands well away from the blade by using 2 push sticks.
