    How to make a hollow.

Use gouges, a template to check the curve, then finish off with scrapers. Could also use calipers or make a depth gauge to mark high points.

Dowels: Do you drill a hole that's 0.5mm smaller?

I think drill bits are available in 0.1mm increments.

    Planing really thin stuff

For the edge, try planing with the plane upside down, you hold the workpiece and move it along the plane. For the main side, use a planing board with thin bit of wood as the stop.

    Common Sense Deceased

Actually, the law allows for self defence, using "reasonable" force. What is illegal is "excessive" force.

Low angle vs standard angle block plane

Low angle block plane: 12 degree bed angle + 25 blade bevel = 37 effective pitch. Standard angle block plane: 20 degree bed angle + 25 blade bevel = 45 effective pitch. If I put a 33 degree bevel blade on the low angle plane: 12 degree bed angle + 33 blade bevel = 45 effective pitch, would it...

chisel sharpening: grinding, wetstone or other?

HSS can't be overheated. For carbon steel, the advice is to grind for a few seconds then dip in water, then grind with some water still on the blade. Also with your thumb on the blade you can feel if it gets hot. I think it needs to get over 200 degrees to soften the steel. I prefer not to use...

    Ful-Use vice?

I don't think you put the rod/bolt into the slots across the vice, it wouldn't be gripped if you did. I think you put the rod in the vice in the usual way (gripped near the top of the jaws), the slots will expose the rod ie the rod won't be completely covered by the jaws, then you cut the rod...

    buying hand planes

You can identify a plane by age from features like shape of lever cap hole, handle material etc. Whether if it's any good is a different matter, which you can't really tell if it's on Ebay.

    A book on wood

I once flicked through this book, whilst in the college library. It uses American timbers, units, names, terms, standards etc, as it would because it's an American book.

    Sharpening, Steel or both.

I think stropping the flat side of the blade on a flat and hard surface, ie not leather, would prevent a back bevel from developing, or at least greatly reduce it. And you would need to raise a big enough burr to remove the "wear bevel", otherwise the edge won't get stropped.
