    Warped/Bowed Table Top

"All looked great until it was moved into the home office where I started to notice the shape was distorting." It might be caused by the difference in humidilty in the office and where the table was made.

Newbie needs help sourcing metalwork tools.

If you're looking at Youtube and American websites, I would ignore brand names and be aware of American names for tools. I doubt if there's anything available in the US that's not available in the UK.

Try-plane with lead in its nose

Back to the topic of the lead, maybe it's to make the front end heavier? Anyone is welcome to start a new thread on mouth width if they want.

Try-plane with lead in its nose

Here's a plane I found on Ebay with lead inserts.

Try-plane with lead in its nose

Maybe it's strike button? But they're usually on the top of the toe, or the back end at the heel.

Try-plane with lead in its nose

That might be the case for a bevel up plane but it's a bevel down plane, the iron bevel doesn't change the effective pitch of the plane which is fixed by the bed angle. The sole at the toe being more worn will increase the pitch slightly (couple of degrees?) but I would have thought that's just...

I blame YouTube, how many more Americanisms are we going to have to suffer ?

A few years ago in the UK, to ship/shipping meant to send something on an actual ship. Its US meaning of sending something by any means is common now.

Increasingly used in the UK: "protest" not followed by "against", which actually changes its meaning to the opposite, as in: "to protest your innocence", "to protest against your innocence".

"To" and "through". UK, 1 to 10, Mon to Fri. US, 1 through 10, Mon through Fri. US "through" sounds weird, how does Monday go through Friday? Does Friday have a hole and Monday goes through it? Although this usage is not used in the UK, yet.

US purse = UK handbag, I think. UK purse is a wallet for women, for carry banknotes and bank cards, loose change etc, usually a bit bigger than a man's wallet.

"Drill press" just sounds wrong, it's not a press!

    Long Straight Edge options?

You can make perfect dead straight edges by making 3 and checking all 3 against each other.

    Sharpenning carving gouges

As well as the corner blocks, in-cannel gouges are useful for the insides of the pegbox, sort of like "drilling" out the waste. And for making flat grooves when roughing out the outside of the top and back, which can be done with out-cannel gouges but it's easier with in-cannel gouges.

    Sharpenning carving gouges

I understand it's quite common in wood carving to have a small inner bevel on an (out cannel) carving gouge, but for working on violins I think it's better not to have it, especially for the scroll turns (the "cylinders"), like using a gouge to make a short dowel.

Those little Lidl Japanese saws are not what they used to be....

Are people saying the current Lidl saw blade is too flexible and sticky? My old one is 0.5mm thick, and flexible enough to do a flush cut but still stiff enough so that if you hold flat in mid-air, the blade only bends under its own weight by a tiny bit.

How to use push sticks to cut wood safely on a table saw.

Isn't the guard too high in the photos except the last one?

Those little Lidl Japanese saws are not what they used to be....

Mine is few years old, on the blade and packaging: "OWIM GmbH & Co. KG" I think they changed the handle shape on the more recent ones.

There's superglue which is very thin and runny, dilute the thick glue with some of it.
