    56 planes on ebay (finsihed)

I agree. If people want stuff, they can search for themselves. And if they miss out on a "bargain", well if they didn't know about it they they're not missing out on anything. I don't like the "see what others are viewing or watching" suggestions on Ebay either.

    Ebay buyer requirement

Listings clearly state where the seller will post to, suffice to say there are all sorts of reason why people don't do it. The problem is when your bid is rejected without any warning, and the reason is given only after you bid.

    Old box labels

If you need labels for Record 050, the scans from http://www.cornishworkshop.co.uk/combinationplanes (about halfway down the page) has them on the last page in the PDF file. Once you have it, you can change it around, eg this could be a generic label, just change the number for a different plane:

    Ebay buyer requirement

That's fine, lots of listings only have "Paypal prefered" or "Paypal accepted" as the payment method. Or if the seller states "Paypal only" in the listing. So the bidder knows where they stand. But the problem is there's two methods to pay with Paypal; pay from a Paypal account and pay with a...

    Ebay buyer requirement

The first few times it happened to me, I thought it was just Ebay trying to get buyers to sign up for a Paypal account. I contacted a few sellers, one said they weren't aware of it. Another said they did set the requirement thinking it was more secure but they then either removed it or allowed...

    Ebay buyer requirement

Has anybody had a "Ebay buyer requirement" when trying to bid. It's a page that comes up after you make a bid, in my case it says my bid wasn't accepted because the seller required the buyer to have a Paypal account. I normally pay by credit card via Paypal. Why isn't there a warning on the...

    Old box labels

I wouldn't reproduce any original labels but I have thought about printing something to stick on or in self made boxes, just for information and a way to quickly see what's inside the box.. This would be for my use only. This is a diagram for the Record 050, whereas the original in the...

    Small router planes

The Chronos/Soba/Axminster one does look a bit unusual in that the slot runs all the way from front to back without anything going across it at the bottom.

    Small router planes

You can make the base wider and/or longer by attaching it to a piece of wood. I agree the Record or Stanley ones go for stupid money; £25-30!

    Small router planes

I've got the Record 722 and I've used the Stanley 271, I haven't had problems with the cutter rotating. As long as you do it up tight enough, it shouldn't rotate. And I do think it's and advantage cos you set it at an angle for a skew cut.

    Mr Punch first appearance (I.Sorby).

It's confusing! From http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Turner,_Naylor_and_Marples : Is that saying "Turner, Naylor and Marples" later became "Turner, Naylor and Co"? And earlier it was "Sorby and Turner".

    Mr Punch first appearance (I.Sorby).

There's a 1876 Turner, Naylor and Marples advert on: http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Turner,_Naylor_and_Marples which doesn't have the Punch logo. That would suggest the logo was introduced after 1876 because it would be strange if the logo was in use but wasn't on the advert.

Record #7 Brand new condition Ebay

Not 1960s/1970s! An unused mint one from the 60s would be remarkable. The lateral lever dates it to 1988 and newer, according to a dating website. Later Record planes would be branded "Record Marples" then Record became Record Irwin.

    The use of thumb planes

If you can fix the bowl still (improvise something from scraps and f cramps), that would make it lot easier using the scraper!

    The use of thumb planes

I've made a few wooden thumb planes for instrument making. They are small, 40-50mm long, shorter than my thumb. They're not tricky to use at all. You're only removing narrow shavings and it doesn't take much effort. Obviously the blade has to be sharp and at the right depth. On my planes and...

    eBay

It's down for me through the landline ISP (Ebay UK, France US all down) , but I can get it on my mobile. It also works through a proxy. I think it's an ISP problem.

    Ward paring chisel

:x OK, that seller seems to get double the upper end of the going rate, but that is effing stupid! I wish the people who pay that sort of money would just go away and leave the old "junk" to people of more limited means but love old tools. If you want to drop £70+ on one "good" chisel, why not...

    Chisel IDs

It's a long shot but how about this one? Nothing's actually readable, it's all smudged in, but the overall shape of the words and/or logo is quite distinctive I think, I haven't seen another one like it. There is some dirt in the depressions.

Frog Adjustment Screw for adjusting nut - left hand thread

You can still use the plane, it's just that you will not have screw adjustment for the blade depth. Loosen the lever cap by flipping up the little lever about halfway, then use use a mallet to tap the blade down, do up the lever and try it etc.
