    Table saw questions

People like to think everything made in china will have disintegrated in 10 years and only be useful for scrap but of course its nonsense, a well made tool in china is still a well made tool. Is it as well made as a Wadkin that cost £1500-£2500 25 years ago? Of course not, but the location of...

Kids & phones, am I getting old?

Many generations managed without TVs at all, then without tvs in each room, then without computers at all, then without computers in each room, then without phone at all, then without everyone having one. It's almost like a repeating pattern.

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Mostly done now, time to start building things to help store all the stuff away that has never had a proper home. Almost looking like a workshop now. First couple of things to build are going to be something to get that sheet material mobile and a flip cart for my disk/belt sander and...

Sold Dewalt DCN692P2 framing nailer, 2x 5AH batteries, ToughSystem case and nails

As some may be aware I purchased a Dewalt DCN692 framing nailer for my workshop build during lockdown as it would end up cheaper than hiring one. With that all now finished I have no use for a nailer like this and so its up for sale. I purchased 6000 nails in 3 sizes and I estimate there might...

    Imperial vs Metric

On the subject of using tape measures, despite me now having a metric only tape that is marked both sides on both faces I STILL read numbers upside down because that's how I've done it for years on tapes with both metric and imperial.

    DIY Rail Square

Far left of your square where it butts against the sheet. I think the benchdogs one has a tab that slides out to support that end of the square

Could not watch Youtube on my smart TV?

Eventually companies stop supporting old TV operating systems whichis why apps might stop working or vanish entirely. TVs sadly get given all these smart features without the processing power to cope properly. This is why the experience is often slow even when new. Something like a Roku or...

    Imperial vs Metric

I grew up with metric in school and imperial at home so while I'm happy with either, I don't faff around with things when they get to 5 5/16s and all that crap. I'll say something is 6ft tall or I need a 2 inch board for example, but if it needs to be actually accurate I'll default to mm. My...

    minimal thickness floor insulation?

I had to do a little of the moving around to do my workshop floor alst week, admittedly there wasn't that much in ther but it was enough to be annoying. But I at least now have 60mm under some 22mm chipboard and its very nice indeed. My insulation was bought at a farm sale though and cost about...

Moving the table saw in the workshop

I'd make a dolly you can shove under it. 80kg is only really 40kg to lift as you'd only lift one side at a time and a 40kg deadlift with a foot nudge to move the dolly should be doable for just about any adult without other conditions. Even if you only got the dolly under one side, a 40kg lift...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Well I managed to get mostly moved in, though like a house move I'll be living in boxes and sorting things out for ages yet. The space looks empty! The day started out by clearing up the mess left from all the work so far. I have almost no actual storage in my existing in house workshop so this...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Well the main guttering is complete and fitted with leaf guard things, joints to sort the down pipes arrive tomorrow though for the immediate future it's not actually going anywhere. A man should be coming to trench across the field soon to help with that. I also cut 11 70mm strips of 18mm...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Oh she's 3 now and demonstrating some of that teenage angst already! No surprise piercings or all black clothes yet at least 🤣 As I tihnk I said before, I really do not envy you trying to do it at this time of year but I wish you all the very best. Either start a thread for your build (always...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Productive day. We have 2 mortice locks fitted, half the guttering up and the monkey tail bolt hole has been drilled into the concrete so that it will sink a good 40mm in. The locks are not keyed alike. I like to think its for security, but its because I thought I'd ticked the box but I hadn't...
