Routing for beginners (and routing tables)

Today solidified my desire to build, at minimum, a basic "router nailed to scrap board" router table. I was attempting to make my first table saw insert and with my template a perfect fit and some thicker material ready to take the template bit I set to work. The initial templating was ok. My...

The Build Begins (Workshop in Garage)

Just pop something uptthere that will take all the usual crap we all insist on keeping and not using for 20 years. At least lt it's out of the way!

    Electrics upgrade cost?!

Ahh, now that's an explanation I can understand! Thanks.

Why can't MFT tables be more than 20mm thick?

I do wish the festool ratchet clamps had a longer shaft. Would make getting them in when there's bit of wood in the way much less of a faff. Truly a first world problem though when you can just move the wood!

    Floating shelf

I did see them made very easily with a domino xl too. Don't think a regular domino would go deep enough though. Though it might be OK. Was a daft video to be honest, people cry at youtubers for not having a domino (despite being able to use a router) let alone a giant domino.

    Electrics upgrade cost?!

Can I ask why go for 4mm radial rather than 2.5mm ring? If the sockets go around the entire room surely the latter makes more sense?

Looking good Bill. You'll love all the light but you'll soon have to add more to the rest of the space as you'll want to see what you're doing everywhere!

The Build Begins (Workshop in Garage)

Enjoy! "And hold the snipe" I use a couple of these. Will add more. Can readily just knock together something to put them in so that you can pull out the one you need rather than stacking them all and forever needing the one on the bottom! https://www.toolstation.com/sorta-screw-case/p31874

    Floating shelf

We've al done it. I spent an hour looking at a broken fulcrum pin on a ride on mower last week wondering how in all hell i'd be able to get to it and replace it. It looked very tucked away. Turns out you remove the grass chute from the back and its staring you in the face!

The Build Begins (Workshop in Garage)

Ha you say that but I have had an echo in my workshop for a while now. Mostly for music but also for wifey to get hold of me when she's elsewhere the house. Never used it for the extractor, though some do!

    Floating shelf

If the cleat was like an upstand at the back it would be OK as the shelf would cantelever and pull it tight. Would probably have to be too big though. I have 2 floating shelves in my bathroom both just made from a lump of redwood. Drill holes from the back edge through toward the front of the...

Those are only wireless switches, no? I meant "smart" switches, apologies.

The Build Begins (Workshop in Garage)

Lots of tools spread out on a wall with a "depth" of say 50mm. Compared to a cupboard or something that can occupy the same wall area but maybe be 400mm deep. The issue with the latter is obviously that if you can't see the thing you want or it's behind a load of other stuff, it gets forgotten...

The Build Begins (Workshop in Garage)

That's a whole lot of cleats! The few i put up I just got the first one up and horizontal, then put one in above it as the actual cleat (so point down) and then used a spacer (just some 6mm aluminium bar in my case) to sit the next cleat on. Check for level obvs but it's a damned sight easier...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

When you go and buy some BB drawer slides for your fancy new cabinet, make sure you get the right flippin length. 😬 I have a 500 deep cabinet and a nice 550 deep pair of slides to keep for a later project. Dolt. At least I have the table saw to keep fiddling with and a new extractor to build...

The Build Begins (Workshop in Garage)

Oh yeah for you it makes sense then. Smart wall switches are expensive and most want Neutral in there too which most uk wiring doesn't have in the switch box. So its either a smart bulb or put the light on a smart plug.

    Dust Extractor

So you're saying 4 is too many? :ROFLMAO: If the hole on the machine is 4" then its going to keep it restricted. You might be able to enlarge that hole on some.
