    Which extractor to keep

Since both machines serve different purposes both would be kept, (or replaced with shiny new ones). The Record is a HPLV vac and appears to be the smaller sibling to the DX4000 which is essentially the same but with 2x 1kw motors. It can suck a golf ball through a straw so its better for tools...

I don't think they would believe it nowadays?

Windows used to be installed from about 35 floppy disks and take about a week.

    Workshop Elf and Safety

Now if I could stop my farmer father in law just filling up endless milk bottles with his concoctions or at least put a label on them like this!

    Pantry Built-ins

Point of order, i've never plastered in my life and do not plan to attempt it. You appear to have had a good result. Don't worry about whether you can build that workshop of yours! No witchcraft needed for that. Looking forward to how this plays out!

    Are cheap cyclones any good?

I've seen enough youtube vids to suggest that yes they are, even if they are just knockoffs of the dust deputy, there is more limited choice when you want one capable of running on a HVLP extractor though. Some people make a bin for themselves, the oddly popular one at the moment is to use some...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Ahh ok interesting! 10mm was on the spec more for the amount of things I might have running at once over that distance really. 4hp tablesaw, 3hp extractor, 2kw heater, 12 LED panels etc.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Utility room cabinet. My first attempt at a cabinet. Or a door. Or edgebanding. Door and coulour made to match the kitchen units (supplied by DIY Kitchens 5 years ago). Edge of drawers and door are a little close, but nothing I can't remedy.

Table saw v Track saw A bit of advice please

My suggestion is to keep the table saw at least until you've used a track saw long enough to make your own mind up. I use both depending on the job. If I want to rip a bunch of ply or MDF to 100mm wide, the table saw does that very quickly. If I want to square something up or cleft a whole...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Bit late to the party there Spectric, electrics were signed off months ago! Though I'm interested why you think I wouldn't need 10mm cable due to the type or earth? What does one have to do with the other? Mine was buried in PVC ducting. No need for a kettle in my workshop as I don't partake...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

If you've got the money then sure, its certainly gets it done a lot faster and with a lot less back ache. But if you feel you're handy enough and have the time then do it! Its a huge sense of pride and everyone that sees it thinks I'm frankly amazing haha. Most of the folk we know havn't had a...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Honestly I'm not sure. I still had a 3 year old that I wanted to help look after so I wasn't working as late as I could every day and with that in mind I also didn't always start much before 10! A lot of time was spent learning as I'd never laid a brick or made even a stud wall before, despite...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Yeah I butt joined with worktop bolts and did the round over in the workshop. It's 3 coats of Osmo 3032. Same as we've got in the kitchen and it's been great for 5 years maintenance free.

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Just bought a 2m lump on ebay, though in the past I used worktop express. This only has a straight join though with solid worktop I'm not sure I see a reason to have the fancy join we do with laminate? There's no hiding the join when you've got staves at right angles to the adjacent piece!

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Well nice news was that my delivery of MRMDF is all Medite now after Kellaway Worcester switched from some other random brand. So I've got enough in for a few other projects I'd like to get done. In other news the utility cabinet is done. The doors are painted but how long that paint lasts is...

    Workshop Storage Ideas

Rather than making individual tool holders for things on a cleat wall I just screwed some 450mm magnets to a cleat. Most of my stuff is up like that now and way faster than mucking about making detailed holders for files or buys or whatever.

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

After using the large sheet cart for a few months I've decided its not working out. To get one sheet off I had to move the whole thing out into the middle of the floor, get the sheets off and then slide it all back. Entirely impractical. at 2400x800mm footprint it also took up a fair amount of...

New Workshop Build - I don't know where to start

It'll need building just because it's over 30m2 internal. You're going to have great fun getting it all together though!

Advice needed - making shaker kitchen cabinets

I made up my door. Used MRMDF for the rails and stiles and a bit of ply for the panel. Needed to route a bevel around the inside to match my kitchen doors and finished off the corners with a chisel. I somehow didn't actually have 2 bits 785 long so I butt joined 2 shorter bits with the domino...

Advice needed - making shaker kitchen cabinets

Oak from somewhere on ebay. I used worktop express for the actual kitchen but cheaped out a fraction and got a 2m lump from some company on there. This has had the same Osmo 3032 treatment but isn't as golden, but then the original worktops have been in for 5 years now so that might explain it...
